Arizona (4-7-0) lost, 3-2, to the Avalanche on Oct. 29 at Gila River Arena - its only home defeat this season. The rematch will take place in Denver, where the Coyotes are 6-4-0 over the past six seasons.
The Coyotes will enter the game ranked last in the NHL in goals against/per game at 3.82 and 28th in overall goals allowed with 42.
"We need better goaltending," Head Coach Dave Tippett said after Monday's practice. "We need better defending. We have to do a better job with the puck, and we have to be better disciplined. That's how you get your goals-against down."
Louis Domingue will get the start in goal. He last played on Friday at Anaheim, but he lasted just one period in a 5-1 loss before being pulled after allowing three goals on 21 shots. Domingue has won three of his past five starts but is winless vs. Colorado in his career.
Forward Brad Richardson leads the team with eight points (four goals, four assists), and defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson is the top goal scorer with five.
Captain Shane Doan, who led the team with 28 goals last season, hasn't lit the lamp since scoring the team's first goal in the season opener on Oct. 15. He has 23 shots on goal in 11 games, but just 13 in the past eight games.
The Coyotes will play minus center Martin Hanzal and defenseman Michael Stone, who are on the injured-reserve list. Forward Tobias Rieder, who is nursing a lower-body injury, is likely to play.
"We'll take it right to warm-up," Tippett said. "But he looks like he's going to be fine."
Arizona recalled defenseman Tony DeAngelo from the American Hockey League on Monday and he skated with Alex Goligoski at Monday's practice. Should he play vs. the Avalanche, DeAngelo would become the fifth rookie to make his NHL debut with the Coyotes this season.
"He's a great puck mover," Tippett said. "He can help out a power play, so we'll have a look at him and see what he can do there. He's been a good player down there (in the AHL)."
