Yegor Chinakhov scored in his first NHL game, and the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh on Monday.
It was the preseason opener for each team. Chinakhov received a pass at the point before beating goalie Tristan Jarry at 16:28 of the first period to make it 1-0. Chinakov was selected by Columbus in the first round (No. 21) of the 2020 NHL Draft. Adam Boqvist made it 2-0 at 4:10 of the third period. The defenseman was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks as part of the trade for Seth Jones on July 23. Emil Bemstrom scored into an empty net at 17:43 for the 3-0 final. J-F Berube started for Columbus and made 20 saves before being replaced at 11:55 of the second period by Jet Greaves, who made eight saves. Jarry made eight saves for Pittsburgh. He was replaced at 11:34 of the second by Filip Lindberg, who made 12 saves.
