Jones scores second of night in OT, Blue Jackets defeat Flyers

PHILADELPHIA -- Seth Jones scored his second goal of the game 10 seconds into overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 4-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday.

It was the fastest overtime goal in Blue Jackets history.
Cam Atkinson had the assist on the goal to extend his point streak to 12 games. He has 13 goals and seven assists during the streak, which is one game shy of Ryan Johansen's Columbus record, set Dec. 18, 2014-Jan. 17, 2015.

"Wasn't really my night, but I'll take it," Atkinson said.
Brandon Dubinsky had a goal and an assist, and Boone Jenner scored for the Blue Jackets (16-10-2), who won for the first time in three games. Artemi Panarin had two assists, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves after allowing eight goals on 26 shots in a 9-6 loss to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
Travis Sanheim scored two goals in the third period to tie the game, and Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist for the Flyers (11-12-3). Anthony Stolarz made 26 saves.

It was Philadelphia's first game since Chuck Fletcher was hired as general manger Monday.
Atkinson won a puck battle along the right wall in the Philadelphia zone and centered it to Jones, who beat Stolarz over his glove to win it.
"They fumbled the puck there, and I just won the battle," Atkinson said. "You could probably hear [Jones] from all the way up top, he wanted that, and it was a nice goal."
Jones said he had one thought in mind when he got the puck.
"I was going high glove the whole time," he said. "I wanted to drag it a little bit, get him to move away from that side a little bit. But I really had no other ... it was going in high glove or it wasn't."
Sanheim scored his first two goals of the season in 2:05. He dragged the puck around Bobrovsky and scored at 12:24 to make it 3-2, and then beat Bobrovsky with a shot from the left face-off circle at 14:29 to tie it 3-3.

The goals were Sanheim's first in 32 games, dating to March 25.
"I think I've been getting some chances and getting some looks and the puck just hasn't been going in the net," he said. "Nice to see it tonight."
Giroux gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead at 5:58 of the first period when he finished a 2-on-1 rush with Travis Konecny.
Jones tied the game 1-1 when his shot along the ice went between Stolarz's skates at 7:06 of the first.

Dubinsky tipped a Scott Harrington shot past Stolarz at 18:08 of the first to give the Blue Jackets a 2-1 lead.
The Flyers thought they tied it 2-2 at 18:48 of the first when Sean Couturier beat Bobrovsky, but Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella challenged for offside, and video review showed Shayne Gostisbehere entered the zone ahead of the puck at 18:41.
Jenner scored from the right circle to make it 3-1 at 5:15 of the third period.

Need to know

Jones has seven points (three goals, four assists) during a five-game point streak. ... Tortorella wore a sweatshirt on the bench because he was ill. He did not meet with the media after the game. Assistant coach Brad Shaw missed the game after being hospitalized Wednesday because of abdominal issues. The Blue Jackets said Shaw will spend Thursday in the hospital with the hope he can travel to Columbus on Friday. ... The Flyers penalty kill, which entered the game 30th in the NHL (71.3 percent), killed all five Blue Jackets power plays and is 12-for-12 in the past five games.
