Sanheim, 22, was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the first round (No. 17) of the 2014 NHL Draft after he had 29 points (five goals, 24 assists) in 67 games for Calgary of the Western Hockey League. He signed an entry-level contract with the Flyers on Sept. 25, 2014.
Sanheim spent the next two seasons with Calgary, where he had 133 points (30 goals, 103 assists) in 119 games before playing four games with Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League in 2015-16. He played 76 games for Lehigh Valley in 2016-17 and had 37 points (10 goals, 27 assists).
