The Carolina Hurricanes will play the New York Islanders in the Eastern Conference First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Hurricanes (52-21-9), who won the Metropolitan Division, will have home-ice advantage in the best-of-7 series. The Islanders (41-31-9) finished as the first wild card from the East.
Game 1 will be at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Monday (7 p.m. ET; ESPN2. SN360, TVAS2).
The Hurricanes won three of the four games against the Islanders this season. Sebastian Aho had three goals, and four other players each had three points (Jordan Staal, Jordan Martinook, Brent Burns, Teuvo Teravainen). Frederik Andersen was 2-1-0 with a 2.67 goals-against average and .905 save percentage and Pyotr Kochetkov had 16 saves in a 3-0 shutout on Dec. 10.
Brock Nelson led the Islanders against the Hurricanes with three goals in four games. Mathew Barzal, Scott Mayfield and Anders Lee each had two assists. Ilya Sorokin was 1-3-0 with a 2.79 GAA, and .911 save percentage in four games.
Carolina and New York have played each other once in the postseason, in the 2019 second round when the Hurricanes swept the Islanders.
Carolina, which has qualified for the playoffs in five straight seasons, lost to the New York Rangers in seven games in the second round last season.
New York, which did not qualify for the playoffs last season, made the third round in 2020 and 2021 losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning each time.
The Hurricanes are led by Martin Necas (71 points), Sebastian Aho (67 points) and Brent Burns (57 points). Forwards Max Pacioretty (Achilles) and Andrei Svechnikov (knee) are each out for the season. Carolina has used three goalies this season. Frederik Andersen is 20-11-1 with a 2.43 goals-against average and .904 save percentage in 33 games (32 starts); Raanta is 19-3-3 with a 2.23 GAA, .910 save percentage and four shutouts in 27 games (26 starts); Pyotr Kochetkov, who is currently in the American Hockey League, is 12-7-5 with a 2.44 GAA, .909 save percentage and four shutouts in 24 games (23 starts).
The Islanders are led by Nelson (73 points), Barzal (51 points), Lee (49 points) and Noah Dobson (47 points). Sorokin is 30-22-7 with a 2.35 GAA, .925 save percentage and six shutouts in 61 games (59 starts). Semyon Varlamov is 11-9-2 with a 2.70 GAA, .913 save percentage and two shutouts in 23 games (22 starts).
New York acquired forward Bo Horvat from the Vancouver Canucks on Jan. 30. He has 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 29 games this season.
The Hurricanes have won the Stanley Cup once, in 2006.
The Islanders have won the Stanley Cup four times, in straight seasons from 1980-83.
