Flames on verge of helping make NHL history

The Calgary Flames can not only extend their winning streak to 10 games with a victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Scotiabank Saddledome on Monday (9 p.m. ET; SNW, ROOT, NHL.TV), they can help make NHL history, too.
If the Flames win, they would become the fourth team this season to have a winning streak of 10 or more games, something that has never happened in the history of the League, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

The Columbus Blue Jackets (16 games), Minnesota Wild (12) and Philadelphia Flyers (10) are the three teams with a double-digit winning streak this season.
The 2015-16 season was the first time three teams had double-digit winning streaks, according to Elias. The Chicago Blackhawks and Florida Panthers each won 12 in a row, and the Anaheim Ducks had an 11-game streak. That season, four teams (Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens and Washington Capitals) had a winning streak that ended at nine.
The Flames, who began their streak Feb. 21, can match the longest run in their history with a victory Monday, according to Elias. The Atlanta Flames won 10 in a row from Oct. 14 to Nov. 3, 1978.
