McLeod records his 1st career 2-goal game in 6-1 win

EDMONTON --Ryan McLeod had two goals and an assist for the Edmonton Oilers in a 6-1 win against the Arizona Coyotes at Rogers Place on Monday.

Leon Draisaitl scored his 48th goal and had an assist, and Connor McDavid extended his point streak to 10 games for the Oilers (37-25-5), who moved within two points of second place in the Pacific Division behind the Los Angeles Kings, who lost 6-1 to the Seattle Kraken on Monday. Mikko Koskinen made 31 saves.
"I was feeling good," McLeod said. "As a group, we were pretty motivated after that last game (a 9-5 loss at the Calgary Flames on Saturday). We just wanted to come hard off the start and got one early and started rolling."

The Coyotes (20-41-5) were eliminated from Stanley Cup Playoff contention in their sixth straight loss (0-5-1). Karel Vejmelka gave up five goals on 35 shots before being replaced at the start of the third period by Josef Korenar, who made six saves.
Arizona played the second game of a back to back after a 2-1 overtime loss at the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.
"It's a tough schedule, we know that and we're pretty banged up right now," Coyotes coach Andre Tourigny said. "Mentally, we were a little bit tired and a little bit off. We had a number of turnovers tonight and our execution was not sharp and making plays was tough. We had a bad game."
McDavid gave Edmonton a 1-0 lead at 4:05 of the first period. He took a pass in the slot from Jesse Puljujarvi, cut across the slot and lifted a backhand.
McLeod made it 2-0 at 10:24, banking a shot from behind the net off Vejmelka.
"It was a pretty businesslike mindset by our team heading into the game; we did what we had to do in order to walk away with the two points," Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft said. "Nobody was happy with the result the other night. We had a day off to think about it, stew about it, and this morning we had some hard meetings. Players were challenged and they responded."

Clayton Keller scored on a power play to cut it to 2-1 at 15:52 when his centering pass went in off the stick of Edmonton forward Zach Hyman.
McLeod responded with a power-play goal on a breakaway at 2:32 of the second period to make it 3-1.
Warren Foegele made it 4-1 at 12:28 on a rebound off a point shot from Tyson Barrie, and Hyman made it 5-1 on a rebound off a shot from Draisaitl at 16:11.
The Oilers outshot the Coyotes 19-12 in the second.
"It's always tough doing it back to back after travel, but that's no excuse; we've done it many times this season," Arizona defenseman Dysin Mayo said. "I think we just didn't have the intensity to come out like we have this season. We found our way back in the game and then we let in a couple more and we really couldn't recover after that."
Draisaitl scored at 9:53 of the third period, redirecting a pass from Puljujarvi for the 6-1 final. With 48 goals, Draisaitl is tied for the NHL lead with Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"It was really important that we learned a lesson from our last game," Koskinen said. "We really wanted to bounce back. It was an embarrassing game on Saturday, and I think we got exactly the result that we needed. Not just the result, but the way that we played. We didn't give any odd-man rushes, we played well. That was the most important thing, with the two points."

Coyotes forward Lawson Crouse left the game late in the second period because of an upper body injury. He has an NHL career high 20 goals this season.
"I don't know, but I'm really concerned," Tourigny said. "It looks like it won't be short. We won't panic right away, but it doesn't look like it's a short-term thing."
NOTES: McDavid has seven goals and 12 assists during his 10-game point streak, the seventh of his NHL career; only Wayne Gretzky (18), Pierre Turgeon (eight), Denis Savard (eight) and Bryan Trottier (eight) had more by age 25 or younger. McDavid turned 25 on Jan. 13. … Draisaitl has seven goals during a four-game goal streak. … The Oilers played without defenseman Kris Russell, who entered COVID-19 protocol Monday. … Vejmelka has allowed at least four goals in three of his past four starts. … The Coyotes have scored nine goals during their six-game skid.
