"It's frustrating, for sure," Ekman-Larsson said. "At the same time, I don't think we deserved to win.
"We knew they were going to come out hard. Then in the second, I felt like we were sitting back and it kind of got away from us a little bit."
Radulov scored 28 seconds later to make it 2-0. After Benn sent an outlet pass into the Coyotes zone, Radulov kicked the puck to his stick, got around Coyotes defenseman Alex Goligoski and scored with a backhand from the right circle.

Klingberg extended the lead to 3-0 on a 4-on-4 at 5:57, beating Raanta blocker side on a breakaway.
Montgomery spent the past five seasons as coach at the University of Denver and won the 2017 NCAA championship.
"First of all, players win games," Montgomery said. "I don't know why coaches have records, and I'm honest with that. I really think players win championships, and I've always believed that. I think coaches help give them opportunities to do that. The win, I was immediately starting to think about what we need to work on and for us to keep getting better."

They said it

"It feels way different every year. There's new faces in here. I don't think that's on anyone's minds. Not on my mind. It's the first game. They're a good team. They beat us in their own barn. We've got to move on. We have stuff we have to get better at." -- Coyotes defenseman Alex Goligoski on avoiding a slow start like last season (0-10-1)
"It's the first game of the year, but it's something that we can't let linger. Some guys were just pretty tentative out there." -- Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet
"It's a bit of a whirlwind. It's kind of chuck your stuff in bags and go, and emotionally you're trying to figure some things out on the run. You just go down to the essentials like sleep, food, don't be late to the rink." -- Stars defenseman Connor Carrick, who was acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday and had two assists
