A House Divided

The action heated up on Day 3 of the Maple Leafs Phase 3 training camp as former housemates Auston Matthews and Frederik Andersen upped the ante on the team's scrimmage sessions.
Before the puck dropped on yesterday's scrimmage, it was announced that the Return to Play roster was split into two teams, facing off five times throughout Phase 3 in what is being dubbed "A House Divided".

It was Team Matthews who opened the scoring early as Mitch Marner caught a lucky deflection off a centering pass.
Team Andersen answered quickly as Kasperi Kapanen raced down the ice for a two-on-one with Alex Kerfoot, who finished off the passing play to tie things up.
The back-and-forth action continued with defenceman Teemu Kivihalme jumping up to the top of the circle and wiring a shot upstairs.
The lead didn't last long as Jason Spezza fed Frederik Gauthier at the top of the crease for a quick one-timer that tied things up yet again.

But before the break, it was Auston himself starting a sequence that put Team Matthews ahead, driving to the corner, firing a pass to William Nylander who quickly found Zach Hyman out front. Hyman went top shelf to give a 3-2 lead at halftime.
Shortly into the second half, Hyman netted his second of the scrimmage, finishing off a 2-on-1 with a beautiful backhand after Matthews rushed the puck up ice.
After being hauled down in the neutral zone, Calle Rosen made no mistake on the ensuing penalty shot and just like that, it was a one-goal game yet again.
Nick Robertson evened it up for Team Andersen, fighting for space in the crease and poking home the loose puck after a Nic Petan shot. Petan added a tally himself with a bar down beauty shortly afterwards, giving Freddie's team their first lead of the day.

It was a short-lived lead before Adam Brooks brought the game back to a 5-5 tie, finishing the cross-crease pass from Denis Malgin.
As the clock ticked down with the score deadlocked, Jake Muzzin delivered a blast from the blue line as Spezza set a screen out front, scoring the game winner and pushing Team Andersen to victory.
The win gives Freddie's side an early series lead in the first of five scrimmages set to take place at Ford Performance Centre throughout Phase 3.
The upcoming matchups are set to take place on July 18, July 19, July 22 and July 23. Highlights from scrimages will be available via Maple Leafs social media channels and on MapleLeafs.com.
