"Sometimes we lose sight of how good the Stastny line has been," said Maurice.
"We have two elite scorers and in the middle is a guy who was 60 per cent in the face-off circle going into overtime. So that's why they started."
EHLERS IS SHOOTING…A LOT
Nikolaj Ehlers tied for the team lead in goals with his 11th on Saturday and is on pace for 30 goals this season, which would be the first time he would reach that mark. Ehlers is truly living the "shoot first" mentality and it shows with the confidence he has wherever he is on the ice that he's not afraid to put the puck on net. Ehlers also leads the Jets in shots on goal with 70.
"I love when Nik Ehlers shoots the puck," said Maurice on Saturday night.
"I love when he's thinking 'No, don't take it down the wall, I can beat a goalie from here'."
HELLEBUYCK WILL MAKE THE NEXT SAVE
We are running out of ways to explain how important Connor Hellebuyck is to the Jets chances of success in this compacted schedule in the Scotia North Division. Saturday night he let in a strange goal when Nick Suzuki banked the puck off of Hellebuyck from behind the red line and into the net. The Vezina Trophy winner bounced back and absolutely robbed Brendan Gallagher on a one time attempt from the Canadien forward that would have given Montreal the lead.
"It was one of those goals that you could do that 99 out of 100 times and it's not going to go in," said Hellebuyck. "I got caught on the one, which seems to be a theme this year, but I felt good in the game and just followed it up on the save to add momentum to me."
HELLO MARCH
It's about to get real busy for the Jets in the month of March and most of it will be away from Bell MTS Place. The Jets are slated to play 17 games in 31 days in March, beginning with a back-to-back set against the Vancouver Canucks this week. Winnipeg's only consecutive days without a game is Mar. 7-8 during a five-game road trip. Twelve of the 17 games in March are on the road
CANUCKS STRUGGLING BUT DANGEROUS
Vancouver will come into tonight's game at Bell MTS Place with just two wins in their last ten games and sitting just three points ahead of hard charging Ottawa for sixth in the Scotia North Division. The Jets won't be looking past the Canucks to their challenging five games over 10 days in the east because Vancouver beat the Jets 4-1 in their only trip to Winnipeg so far and the Jets beat them twice on the West Coast in a couple tightly contested battles at Rogers Arena.
