• After surrendering the first goal to Edmonton, the Islanders are 13-4-4 when scoring first and are 4-14-2 when allowing the opening goal.
• With Sorokin starting on Friday, Semyon Varlamov is likely to start on Saturday in Calgary. Varlamov is 3-4-0 in his last seven games, but boasts a 1.87 GAA and a .943 SV%.
Kyle Palmieri joined the team in Edmonton, but did not play against the Oilers as the Islanders went back with their lineup from a 6-3 win over the Canucks. Update: Trotz said he's inclined to go back to the same lineup, but that Palmieri would be the player inserted if he makes a change.
• The Islanders are 6-4-0 in their last 10 trips to Calgary. Saturday marks the Islanders first visit to Calgary since Feb. 20, 2019, since the Flames were the Islanders next opponent when the NHL paused the 2019-20 NHL season.
