An animated crowd packed UBS Arena for the first playoff game in the building's history and the New York Islanders gave them a 5-1 win in Game Three of their First Round series on Friday night. As a result, the Islanders are on the board, trailing the best-of-seven series two games to one.
Casey Cizikas (1G, 1A), Kyle Palmieri (1G, 1A), Matt Martin, Scott Mayfield (1G, 1A) and Anders Lee led the way for the Islanders offense. Cizikas opened the scoring in the middle frame to record the first playoff tally at UBS Arena, but the Hurricanes responded late in the period with a shorthanded goal from Jesper Fast. Kyle Palmieri recovered the lead in the third period with a deflection to spark a rapid chain of goals form Martin, Mayfield and Lee to take Game Three.
Ilya Sorokin made 30 saves in the win, while Antti Raanta made 32 saves in the loss.
The Islanders have the chance to give their fans a series-tying win on Sunday at UBS Arena for Game Four.
"It was pretty awesome," Matt Martin said of the rowdy home crowd. "I didn't think anything would be like [Nassau] Coliseum, but it was pretty damn close. Our fans bring so much energy for us, and helped us tilt the ice, especially in that third period when we really needed a push. Just an unbelievable atmosphere - we love playing in front of these fans and in this building."

16:09 - NYI 2, CAR 1 PPG - Sebastian Aho receives a cross-ice pass from Jean-Gabriel Pageau and fires a long shot from the point, which finds Kyle Palmieri's stick and deflects up and over the shoulder of Raanta, regaining the lead for the Islanders.
