The New York Islanders won for the third time in four tries after beating the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 at UBS Arena on Wednesday night.
Simon Holmstrom scored the game-winning goal with 10:03 to play in the third period, breaking open a 1-1 tie, while Sebastian Aho scored the other goal for the Islanders. Nikolaj Ehlers' power-play goal was the lone tally for the Jets.
With the win, the Islanders (67 points) remained in the first wild card position in the Eastern Conference, three points up on the Florida Panthers (65 points) and four up on the Pittsburgh Penguins (63 points), though the Penguins hold five games in hand.
