GREISS IN GOAL:
Thomas Greiss gets the nod for the Islanders season opener.
"I just felt Thomas was a little bit more prepared to go right now based on performance and that's how we'll deal with most things," Head Coach Barry Trotz said. "He just edged out Robin to start. Doesn't mean that's the way it'll be all year, just based on training camp and preseason."

Greiss pitched a 45-save shutout for the Islanders in his last start at PNC Arena. He was 13-8-2 in 25 games last season with a 3.82 goals-against average and a .892 save percentage.

DE HAAN TO FACE ISLANDERS:
Calvin de Haan's first game with his new team will also be his first against his old one.
The former Islanders defenseman gets set to make his Carolina Hurricanes debut on Thursday as he faces off against the Isles. De Haan, who signed a four-year deal with the Hurricanes this summer, said he had fond memories of his six seasons with the Islanders.
"I have a lot of good friends over there and good memories over the years, it's something I'll cherish forever and I wish those guys nothing but the best," de Haan said.
De Haan, who had 118 points in 304 games with the Islanders, said being drafted (12th overall in 2009) and the two playoff appearances in 2015 and 2016 were two of his top highlights with the team.
"My time there, I can't say anything bad about," de Haan said. "I had a great time, lots of friends and good memories over there."
The Carp, ON, native said he wanted to try a new experience, which factored into his decision to sign with Carolina. De Haan said he's adjusting to life in Raleigh and playing for a new team and joked that he's the oldest defenseman on the Hurricanes, despite being 27 years old.
"It was something I really wanted to try and take advantage of, a lot of players don't get this opportunity" de Haan said. "It was nothing against the Isles, just a personal decision I had to make."
