MARK GIORDANO ON JACOB MARKSTROM:

ON ENERGY FROM THE START:

"I think you could see it right off (the hop). A few blocked shots, guys getting into scrums and mixing it up physically. A couple big body checks. The little things; the battles. That's a good team over there that battles extremely hard and I thought we did a good job."

MATTHEW TKACHUK ON HOW IT PLAYED OUT:

"I thought we played pretty smart. We weren't getting caught, weren't giving (up) chances. That run-and-gun style that we had a little bit in the second isn't a recipe for success. In the third, we were making sure, as forwards, keeping guys in front of us, not giving up too many odd-mans. We were pressuring along the walls and on loose pucks. ... I still think we can be better, but all in all, pretty steady third period from us."

MARKSTROM ON THE RESPONSE:

"I think, obviously, everyone in the room, no one was happy with what was happening. We weren't playing great as a team and today we did that and got the results tipping our way. The previous games... It's a tough division, especially in the beginning, you don't want to be playing catch-up after five or six games. We've got a couple days - enjoy today and get prepared for another good team."

"When the shots were coming, I was seeing the puck"

ON SHEA WEBER'S BIG BLAST:

"I'm more scared of letting it in than to stop it. It's my job to stop it. It's great to see (blocked shots); you see everybody on the bench banging their sticks. Small things during the game, you want to get momentum from anything. It can be from a goal, a save, or shot blocks and back-checking. It's important. We really stuck together as a team for 60 minutes and it paid off with the win."

GEOFF WARD ON BLOCKED SHOTS

"It's huge. It says something to your teammates that you're ready to play, that you're prepared to go outside of your comfort zone. It's big. Guys appreciate it and it certainly does build a little momentum for you."

"It's something to build on, for sure"

ON CHANCES FOR AND AGAINST:

"I liked the first and the third period an awful lot in terms of what we were able to do defensively. The second period, we had Montreal for a ton of chances. For two-thirds of the game, I thought we were pretty good. And for one period of it, I thought we were pretty leaky. ... There were some teachable moments that I think we can do better with."
