DALLAS - With five picks in the 2018 NHL Draft, the Flames focused solely on forwards.
With the 105th overall pick, the club went with Martin Pospisil from the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL. The Slovakian winger had 37 points and 253 PIM in 49 regular-season games this past season.
Calgary also held the 108th pick, opting to go with Demetrios Koumontzis from Edina High School. In 24 games in league play in 2017-18, the forward managed 20 goals and 40 points. He also played 21 games as a member of Team Northeast, scoring 16 goals and 49 points during that stretch.
Originally entering the draft with four picks, the Flames acquired an additional fourth-round selection from Montreal in exchange for a fourth-round pick next year.
With the pick from the Canadiens, the Flames drafted Vancouver Giants forward Milos Roman. The Czech pivot put up 10 goals and 32 points in 39 games in the WHL last season. In the playoffs, he amassed three goals and six points in seven skates.
In the sixth round, Calgary drafted center Mathias Emilio Pettersen from the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. The Norwegian forward netted 14 goals and 46 points in 60 games in 2017-18.
With their final selection, the Flames selected Dmitry Zavgorodniy in the seventh round. The Rimouski Oceanic forward put up 26 goals and 47 points in 62 regular-season games last year.
