The Ducks named center Mikael Granlund team captain, the 10th captain in Ducks history. Granlund joins a group of Ducks captains including Radko Gudas (2024-26), Ryan Getzlaf (2010-22), Scott Niedermayer (2005-07, 2008-2010), Chris Pronger (2007-08), Steve Rucchin (2003-04), Paul Kariya (1996-2003), Teemu Selanne (1997-98), Randy Ladouceur (1994-96) and Troy Loney (1993-94).
In addition to Granlund, the Ducks’ leadership group includes four alternate captains: Leo Carlsson, Alex Killorn, Jackson LaCombe and Troy Terry. All four have previously worn an ‘A’ with the club.
“Mikael has been a strong leader in our locker room and with his national team over the years, and he is a natural fit with where we are as a hockey club,” said Ducks General Manager Pat Verbeek. “Both our management group and coaching staff have seen how he leads by example and exemplifies how a captain carries themselves on and off the ice. He personifies the professionalism, humility, mentorship and quiet intensity that will lead the various personalities of our group.”
Granlund, 34 (2/26/92), previously served as captain of Finland’s national team at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games Milano-Cortina in addition to the 2018 and 2024 World Championships. He helped lead his country to a bronze medal at the 2026 Olympics and to gold at the 2026 World Championship.
“This is an incredible honor to be the captain of the Anaheim Ducks and join the many other great captains in the organization’s history,” said Granlund. “I am grateful to Pat, the coaching staff and the other players in this locker room to trust me with this responsibility. We have many quality leaders already on this team and great teammates to help this entire group represent the Ducks on the ice and in our community.”
Granlund has scored 198-453=651 points in 960 career NHL games with Anaheim (2025-present), Dallas (2025), San Jose (2023-25), Pittsburgh (2023), Nashville (2019-23) and Minnesota (2012-19). The Oulu, Finland native ranks third in points and assists, and fourth in goals among all active Finnish players in the NHL. All-time, he ranks ninth in points and assists among Finnish NHL players.
Signed by Anaheim to a three-year contract July 1, 2025, the 5-10, 192-pound forward scored 19-22=58 points in 58 games during his first season with Anaheim last season. He also co-led the Ducks in postseason goals with 5-5=10 points in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.
