Ducks 2019-20 Season Opening Notes

DUCKS OPEN SEASON TONIGHT: The Ducks open the 2019-20 regular season against the Arizona Coyotes tonight at Honda Center (7 p.m. PT, Prime Ticket, AM 830). The Ducks have an all-time record of 944-771-269, including a 531-326-131 mark at Honda Center. The Ducks are scheduled to play their 2,000th game in franchise history Nov. 3 vs. Chicago, and their 1,000th game at Honda Center Nov. 14 vs. San Jose.

OPENING NOTES: Tonight marks the sixth time in franchise the Ducks have opened their season at Honda Center (3-2-0). Anaheim has won its last two season openers, including last year's Oct. 3, 2018 win in San Jose. The Ducks will open their season against a Pacific Division opponent for the third consecutive season.

HOW THE DUCKS WERE BUILT: Anaheim's 2019-20 season-opening roster includes 13 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders. The roster consists of 11 Canadians, six Americans, four from Sweden and one from Germany. Anaheim has 18 players on the roster under 30 years of age.

DUCKS-COYOTES CONNECTIONS:

  • Michael Del Zotto played four seasons for the New York Rangers with Derek Stepan (2010-14).
  • Cam Fowler was a teammate of Derek Stepan on Team USA at the 2010 World Junior Championship and at the 2011 World Championship. Fowler was also a teammate of Alex Goligoski with Team USA at the 2012 World Championship.
  • Derek Grant was a teammate of Phil Kessel for part of last season with the Penguins.
  • Korbinian Holzer played five seasons in the Toronto organization with Phil Kessel (2010-15).
  • Max Jones played one season with Christian Dvorak for the London Knights (OHL), winning the 2016 Memorial Cup.
  • Ryan Miller played one season for the Vancouver Canucks with Brad Richardson (2014-15). Miller also won silver with Phil Kessel on Team USA at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
  • Rickard Rakell won gold with Hampus Lindholm and Oliver Ekman-Larsson at the 2018 World Championship.
  • Nick Ritchie won gold with Lawson Crouse as members of Team Canada at the 2015 World Junior Championship.
  • Devin Shore played one season with Alex Goligoski and Jason Demers with Dallas in 2015-16.
  • Jakob Silfverberg won bronze with Oliver Ekman-Larsson at the 2010 World Junior Championship with Sweden. The pair also won silver with Sweden at the 2011 World Championship. Silfverberg, Ekman-Larsson and Niklas Hjalmarsson won silver at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
  • Troy Terry won gold with Clayton Keller on Team USA at the 2017 and 2018 World Championships. Terry also won gold with Christian Fischer on Team USA at the 2015 U-18 World Junior Championship.
  • Cam Fowler and Ryan Miller were teammates with Phil Kessel and Derek Stepan at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
  • Hampus Lindholm and Jakob Silfverberg played for Team Sweden at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey with Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Carl Soderberg.
  • Max Jones and Troy Terry were members of the 2014-15 U.S. National Team Development Program with Christian Fischer and Clayton Keller.

2019 PRESEASON: The Ducks concluded the 2019 preseason with a 4-1-1 record, tied for second place in the Pacific Division with Calgary and Los Angeles. Only Nashville (11 GA) allowed fewer preseason goals than Anaheim (12 GA). The Ducks finished the preseason with 17 consecutive penalty kills, and ranked tied for fourth among NHL teams in PK% (92.3%). Jakob Silfverberg collected four points (3g/1a) to lead the Ducks in preseason scoring for the second consecutive year. Silfverberg also led the club in goals, while Ryan Getzlaf led in assists (3).
