LOS ANGELES -- The Canadiens suffered a 5-2 loss to the Kings on Saturday afternoon at STAPLES Center.

Head coach Dominique Ducharme went with the same lineup that blanked the San Jose Sharks earlier in the week.
That meant that goaltender Jake Allen made his seventh consecutive start.
For his part, winger Tyler Toffoli made his return to STAPLES Center for the first time since being traded by the Kings in February 2020.
Toffoli, who resides in Los Angeles during the offseason, was all smiles heading into the contest.

The Kings acknowledged his first appearance in his former hockey home with a video tribute during the opening frame.
The 10-year NHL veteran was touched by the gesture, acknowledging the crowd.

The Canadiens opened the scoring with just 1:38 left in the period courtesy of winger Josh Anderson's second goal of the year.
Anderson was the recipient of a perfect pass from Christian Dvorak before solving goaltender Cal Petersen.

Defenseman Alexander Romanov also assisted on the tally.
Montreal led 1-0 after 20 minutes.
The Kings tied things up at the 4:31 mark of the second period when winger Viktor Arvidsson snuck a puck past Allen.
Arvidsson's second goal of the campaign was assisted by captain Anze Kopitar and defenseman Olli Maatta.

Anderson was in the penalty box when Los Angeles pulled ahead courtesy of rookie winger Arthur Kaliyev's blast from the circle.
Kaliyev's first goal of the season at the 12:19 mark of the stanza was assisted by defenseman Kale Clague and Kopitar.
The Kings took a 2-1 lead into the break.
Los Angeles went ahead by a pair just 1:53 into the third period on the power play courtesy of youngster Rasmus Kupari, who beat Allen with a blistering shot upstairs.
Kupari's second goal of the season was assisted by defenseman Matt Roy and winger Alex Iafallo.
Speaking of Iafallo, he put the home team up 4-1 at the 5:37 mark of the frame.
It was his second goal of the year.
Roy was credited with the lone assist.
Then, Iafallo added the Kings' third tally with the man advantage with 5:44 left in regulation.
Phillip Danault and Kupari picked up the assists.
Defenseman Ben Chiarot capped the scoring with 2:20 left in regulation with his second goal of the season to make it 5-2.
Anderson and Nick Suzuki collected the assists.

That's the way this one finished.
Allen turned aside 33 of 38 shots in the loss.
The Canadiens will close out their four-game road trip on Sunday afternoon against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center.
