EDMONTON - The Canadiens picked up their first win of the season on Saturday night, posting a 5-1 victory over the Oilers at Rogers Place.

Following the game, defenseman Jeff Petry, forward Brendan Gallagher and goaltender Carey Price met the media.
They were followed by head coach Claude Julien.
Here are a few highlights from their Zoom-based Q&A with reporters:
Keeping Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl from lighting the lamp isn't easy, but the Habs accomplished that objective for a number of reasons, according to Petry:
I think we stuck to our plan the whole game. Where we got into trouble in Toronto was the start of the second period where we were kind of sloppy with the puck, and I think we managed the puck well tonight. Our forwards did a good job staying above their forwards when they were swinging, so it allowed us to have tight gaps and limit their chances on the rush.

Following Josh Anderson's two-goal performance against the Maple Leafs, Petry and Tomas Tatar stepped up with a pair of goals each and Jake Evans added a tally as well. Gallagher was asked to comment on the Canadiens' depth this season:
That's going to be a strength for us all year long. We're pretty confident in the depth that we have. It's going to be a new guy stepping up every single night, but if we can hold each other accountable to show up and come at teams in waves like that - even Jake, he scored a huge shorthanded goal for us. We can come at teams four lines deep. Obviously, our back end and our goaltending, we feel like whoever's on the ice can get the job done and it's tough to play against. We know from the past when you're playing against teams that have that depth, as the game goes on, you're just able to wear teams down.

As much as the offense came up big versus Edmonton, the same can be said for goaltender Carey Price, according to Gallagher:
It could've been a different game if we don't have him back there. I thought we did a pretty decent job, but they're great players [McDavid and Draisaitl], they're going to get their chances and their opportunities. Fortunately, we have a pretty great one in between the pipes for us to make those saves. He's so calm, he's so cool. It just allows you to keep momentum on your side. We're pretty fortunate to play in front of him every single night.

The seven-time NHL All-Star made 34 saves in the Albertan capital and he continues to impress his longtime teammate year after year:
I think he's getting better and better. He's such a competitor. He puts in so much work to his craft. I think he's going to enjoy playing in front of this team that we have this year because we're committed to doing a lot of things to help him out. You can't put into words how valuable he is. It's a pretty good feeling going into every game knowing you have him back there because you know you have a pretty good shot right off the bat.

For his part, Price offered up some kind words about McDavid following the win:
You want to play against the best players in the world. Connor, in my opinion, is the best player in the world. He's so talented, and with his speed and his hands and his vision, it's a pleasure to share the ice with him.

Julien, meanwhile, appreciated the work his group put in to limit the Oilers' captain from doing any serious damage:
The best way to defend against him is to get on him as quickly as you can. You have to take away the time and space that allows him to pick up speed. We did good work in that department.

The veteran bench boss also praised Price for his tremendous effort:
He had a big impact. We saw the scoring chances they managed to get and the way Carey reacted. He was excellent for us tonight. We did good things, but we have to continue to improve. They had too many chances at some points. We'll try to improve that aspect of our game.
