The centerman had been in playing mode all season, and he had to take a step back, get his rest, and then get in some tough conditioning to get back up to game speed.
"I had three or four days off, skated the last three days, just going to go out there, get the puck in deep and just go with it," said Spooner. "Just skate, just get the puck deep, just keep it simple - if I do that, then I should be fine."
Spooner will be back centering the third line, with Frank Vatrano and Jimmy Hayes on his wings.
"I think as a line, I think the thing that kind of works for us, is when we get the puck low, get it to Jimmy, he can make a play there," said Spooner. "And if I work the half walls, it usually works well for us, so that's what I'm going to try to do."
With Spooner back in, Peter Cehlarik and Austin Czarnik will be the healthy scratches up front. Riley Nash will rejoin the fourth line, playing at right wing, with Dominic Moore at center and Matt Beleskey at left wing.
Anton Khudobin is slated to start in goal for the first leg of the back-to-back, with Tuukka Rask expected to play on Thursday night in Edmonton. Former Bruin Chad Johnson will be in goal for Calgary.
