NEW YORK - The Bruins will be in search of their seventh straight victory on Thursday night when they visit the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Here's everything you need to know ahead of the 7:30 p.m. ET puck drop on ESPN+ and 98.5 The Sports Hub:

Reilly Back In the Lineup

The injury bug is continuing to bite the Bruins with Derek Forbort now sidelined by an upper-body injury that has forced him back to Boston and considered week-to-week. With Forbort out of the lineup, Mike Reilly will return for his first game since Oct. 25 after being sent to Providence in what he called a "paper transaction" when Brad Marchand was activated last week.
"It's definitely a mental grind for sure," Reilly, who has been conferring with Bruins general manager Don Sweeney about his situation, said of being out of the lineup. "I feel like I like where my game is at…basically, I was the one guy that they could do that with, the paper transaction thing [of being sent down].
"I feel like I liked where things were going in and it just kind of came to a halt, obviously, just because of the situation, I guess. But I just kind of want to try to build off what I was trying to do in those first couple games."
The veteran blue liner, who has suited up for seven games this season, said he has tried to remain as professional as possible throughout the last week as he awaited an opportunity to return to the lineup.
"I just come to the rink every day with a good attitude, you can control that," he said. "So that's what I've been trying to do every day when I want to come to the rink and just work on my game. That's what I'm focused on. And then there's times you want to kind of think ahead a little bit in the future and whatnot.
"But, obviously, we had [Forbort] go down the other night, which is very tough to see; he's a close buddy of mine. But now there's an opportunity and you just come to the rink every day with a good attitude and come to work.
Coach Jim Montgomery complimented Reilly for his professional approach though what has been an unusual situation.
"He's a great pro," said Montgomery. "He's a really good teammate. He's been outstanding in his work habits in practice and outstanding with the teammate he's been."

Kinkaid Up from Providence

With Jeremy Swayman joining Forbort back in Boston and also considered week-to-week after suffering a lower-body injury on Tuesday in Pittsburgh, the Bruins recalled netminder Keith Kinkaid from Providence on an emergency basis. The veteran backstop, signed to a one-year, two-way contract back in July, has plenty of NHL experience with 167 games on his resume with New Jersey, Montreal, and the Rangers.
"Another opportunity that I was working for the past two years in New York," said Kinkaid, who was with the Blue Shirts organization from 2020-22, suiting up for 10 games with the big club and 43 with the Hartford Wolf Pack.
"It stinks that Sway had to get injured like that. I wish him the best in recovery and I'm gonna do my best to fill in for him."
Through four games with Providence this season, Kinkaid posted a 2-1-1 record with a .922 save percentage and 2.70 goals against average, forming a solid tandem with Kyle Keyser (4-0-1, .928, 1.94).
"Every goalie in the organization gets along really well," Kinkaid said of his rapport with Keyser. "We're all on each other's team and friends off the ice. It's been good, healthy competition. Both teams have been rolling, so it's been nice."
Kinkaid will backup Linus Ullmark on Thursday night against the Rangers.

Wait, There's More

  • David Krejci, who participated in the morning skate on Thursday at MSG, is considered day-to-day, but getting "real close" to a return to game action. Craig Smith, meanwhile, also remains day-to-day with an upper-body injury. Montgomery said both could be in the lineup on Saturday in Toronto.
  • Charlie McAvoy was, once again, a full participant in morning skate, though Montgomery reiterated that the blue liner's timeline for a return has not changed. "It's his first week getting back into a rhythm with us," said Montgomery. "We are just hopeful with him. No updated timeline. We have our internal process…he's ahead of that December 1 date but we don't know exactly. There are boxes to be checked."
  • The Rangers are 6-3-2 to start the season and have won three straight, including a 1-0 overtime win over Philadelphia on Tuesday night. Artemi Panarin paces the Blue Shirts with 16 points in 11 games, while Mike Zibanejad leads the club with six goals. "They are a real formidable team," said Montgomery. "They are good defensively, they are just a real good hockey team. We have to have our best game of the year to have success tonight, to have a chance at success."
