WINNIPEG –– The Boston Bruins open their first road trip of the year on Friday when they face the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre.

The 8 p.m. ET puck drop marks the Jets’ first game of the season; the B’s are coming off a 3-0 win over the New York Rangers on Tuesday.

“We want to be consistent. I think it doesn’t matter which building you are [in]. It shouldn't affect our game,” head coach Marco Sturm said. “That’s going to be the biggest task right now – to find our game on the road and be consistent.”

Morgan Geekie will be playing in front of some friends and family. The Strathclair, Manitoba, native had four points through two games against Winnipeg last season.

“We’ll have some people here. I was talking to my dad the other day; there will be a lot of people in the [farm] field, I think. So if they can make it in, it will be good to see some people,” Geekie said. “But it’s always fun playing at home. It’s nice to get here when it’s not December or January, and you get to see that Manitoba is not all that bad sometimes.”

Geekie remains on the second line with Pavel Zacha and Casey Mittelstadt. The trio combined for seven shots on Tuesday and is looking to produce against the Jets.

“Zacha and Mittelstadt are very straightforward hockey players,” Sturm said. “In the offensive zone, with the shot, [Geekie] is a very big weapon, and those guys will find him. They need a few more games, I would say, just to get used to it. But there’s a lot to like.”

Geekie added on.

“I haven’t played with a lefty in a while, so it’s good to have two of them. It’s good. It’s a little different. Obviously they played with [Viktor Arvidsson] for most of the year last year, so just try to get in there and be in the right spots for them,” he said. “Being the righty, I’ll just try to find myself in the shooting areas on the right side and try to convert on those.”

Wait, There’s More

  • Jeremy Swayman will start in net for Boston. The goaltender is coming off a 24-save shutout against the Rangers on Tuesday. Michael DiPietro, who made the team out of training camp for the first time, will back up Swayman.
  • Fraser Minten had two points (one goal, one assist) on Tuesday. It was the second consecutive year the 22-year-old forward scored the game-winning goal for the B’s at the home opener. Minten remains on the third line with Marat Khusnutdinov and James Hagens.
  • Connor Clifton had the most ice time of all Bruins in their first game, logging 23:23 while skating on the second pair with Nikita Zadorov. The 31-year-old defenseman, who is in his second stint with Boston, had two shots, two blocks and three hits. He and Zadorov will skate together in Winnipeg.

Opposing View

  • Stuart Skinner is expected to start in net for the Jets. The 27-year-old goaltender signed a two-year deal with Winnipeg in July. Skinner had a 2.92 GAA and .888 SV% through 50 games last season between the Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins. Clay Stevenson will be the backup; the Jets claimed him off waivers from the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.
  • Cole Koepke spent the 2024-25 season with the Bruins before signing with the Jets in July 2025. The 28-year-old forward had 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) through 66 games last season while averaging 10:28 of ice time per night.
  • Josh Morrissey led all Winnipeg defensemen with 55 points (14 goals, 41 assists) through 77 games last season. He also led the team in 24:43 of average ice time per night. Morrissey, the 31-year-old blueliner, has been practicing on the first pair with Dylan DeMelo ahead of the Jets’ opening night.
