BOSTON - Craig Smith loves history. So, when the Wisconsin native signed with the Bruins last fall, he was thrilled to be joining an organization and a city steeped so heavily in tradition.
During a normal season, the winger would have had plenty of opportunities to explore one of the country's most historic towns. But the COVID-19 pandemic put a damper on Smith's plans to venture out around his new hometown, as health and safety protocols limited what players and staff were allowed to do away from the rink.
As such, Smith opted to stick around Boston for a few weeks once the Bruins' season came to an end - albeit far earlier than anyone would have liked - to get to know his new hometown and soak up some of its rich history.
And on Tuesday afternoon, he did just that, hopping aboard an Old Town Trolley to help kick off Bear Tracks 2021 with a tour of Boston's most historic landmarks.
"Pretty thrilled…heard a lot about these sites, but never had the chance to see them firsthand," said Smith, who was joined by his wife, Aleah. "It's a good learning experience for me…it's nice to get out here and get a feel for the city, the people, walking around. It's been great."
