"It's fantastic. We're always happy to do something with our NHL partners, and this is such a big hockey market, so to get them all on the ice is just awesome," said Holmgren. "They all want to be a part of it."
Girls Hockey Day kicked off with girls from the "Little Bruins" program hitting the ice for a skate on the TD Garden ice, followed by a round-robin U10 Half-Ice Jamboree with six teams: Assabet Valley, Cape Anne Youth Hockey, Duxbury Youth Hockey, MA Spitfires, Parkway Youth Hockey, and Waltham Youth Hockey.
Grillo ran a set of skills clinics for girls across New England, including a U12 clinic and a U14 body contact clinic, as well as a high school clinic.
The Boston Blades and Boston Pride ladies helped run the clinics. Blades players included forwards Kristina Brown, Dru Burns, Kate Leary, Megan Myers, Kayla Tutino, goaltender Jetta Rackleff, and Blades Captain Tara Watchorn.
Pride players included defenders Lexi Bender and Alyssa Gagliardi, goaltender Brittany Ott, and forwards Amanda Pelkey and Jordan Smelker.
