BOSTON - The Boston Bruins announced today that Kelly Browne of Tabor Academy and Jay O'Brien of Thayer Academy are this year's recipients of the John Carlton Memorial Trophies.
The John Carlton Memorial Trophies are given annually by the Boston Bruins to the outstanding male and female student athletes in Eastern Massachusetts high school hockey or junior hockey. They are given to the high school seniors "who combine exceptional hockey skills with academic excellence." The annual awards are named in honor of the late Bruins scout and administrator who passed away in December 1982 after a long and dedicated affiliation at all levels of the game.

Browne, of Burlington, MA, finished her high school career at Tabor Academy with 27 goals and 13 assists for 40 points in 22 games. In addition to being a NEPSAC All Star, she was also named the 2018 NEPSAC player of the year. She was a member of the gold medal-winning 2018 U.S. Under-18 Women's National Team at the IIHF Under-18 Women's World Championship in Dmitrov, Russia. She was recognized as the 2018 Independent School League MVP. Browne was a three-year member of the varsity hockey team and also served as the captain of the varsity hockey team this past season. She plans to attend Boston College this fall.
O'Brien, of Hingham, MA, completed his high school career at Thayer Academy scoring 43 goals and 37 assists in 30 games played. He was the leading scorer in Prep School Hockey this season with 80 points. At the conclusion of the 2018 season, O'Brien was named to the All-New England Prep School team for the second time, as well as the Boston Globe and Herald All-Scholastic teams. He was recognized as the 2018 MVP of the ISL Keller Division and the MVP for Thayer Academy for the second consecutive year. He played seven games for the USA Under-18 National Team this fall and earned an invite to the 2017 CCM/USA All-American Prospects Game. He plans to attend Providence College this fall.
Past winners of the Carlton Trophies include Ryan Donato of the Bruins, Ryan Fitzgerald of the Providence Bruins, and Jillian Dempsey and Mary Parkerof the Boston Pride.
