BLUES AT FLAMES

TEAM SNAPSHOTS

BLUES The St. Louis Blues didn't get off to the start they wanted on Friday night, and that eventually proved costly.
The Edmonton Oilers jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first period, forcing Blues Head Coach Craig Berube to pull Jordan Binnington in the opening frame. Berube's team would battle back, eventually tying the game at 5-5 in the third period - but it was Connor McDavid who won the game for the Oilers just 1:11 into overtime.
Pavel Buchnevich had two goals in the loss, while Robert Thomas and Ivan Barbashev each had a goal and an assist.
"Not really the start we wanted going down 4-1," Colton Parayko said. "They came out hard, pressured us hard, got to the net and got pucks to the net. Obviously a good job in fighting back into the game, good to get a point coming back from being down 4-1. The start was not ideal.
"It was a good comeback by us overall," he added. "That's big for our group coming back like that, knowing that if we're down we can step up and get back in it."
The Blues were playing their second straight game without leading scorer Jordan Kyrou, who was sick.
St. Louis fell to 37-20-10 on the season and are three points behind the Minnesota Wild for second in the Central Division.
FLAMES The Calgary Flames currently sit comfortably atop the Pacific Division with 89 points as they get set to host a big matchup with the Blues on Saturday night.
The Flames will be wrapping up a six-game homestand. They are 2-2-1 so far.
Overall, though, Calgary has remained a tough team to beat at home - they are 21-7-7 at the Saddledome this season.
In their last outing on Thursday, the Flames had a 2-1 lead against the Los Angeles Kings in the third period, but Viktor Arvidsson would tie the game late for Los Angeles, who eventually won in a shootout.
HEAD-TO-HEAD Saturday's matchup marks the third and final meeting between the Blues and Flames this season.
Calgary won the first meeting 7-1 at the Saddledome, but the Blues earned a 5-1 victory just three days later in St. Louis.
Overall, the Blues are 5-1-0 in their last six games against the Flames.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

BLUES Robert Thomas, who has a career-high 55 points this season. Thomas contributed two points in Friday's game in Edmonton, extending his point streak to four games (two goals, five assists).
FLAMES Johnny Gaudreau, who was named the Second Star of the Month for March with 26 points in 16 games. Gaudreau leads the Flames with 91 points this season, which is eight more than the second-place Matthew Tkachuk.

BLUE NOTES

The Blues are 2-2-3 in the second game of back-to-back sets this season… Craig Berube will be coaching in his 258th game with the Blues on Saturday, tying Andy Murray for fourth on the Blues' all-time franchise list… St. Louis is 13-3-3 against Pacific Division teams this season… The Blues' next win will be their 1,967th overall as a franchise, which is significant because the team entered the League in 1967. The Blues would become only the second non-Original Six team to reach 1,967 wins.
