COLUMBUS, OHIO --- The Columbus Blue Jackets trimmed their training camp roster by seven players, club General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today. There are now currently 29 players in camp - 18 forwards, nine defensemen and two goaltenders.

The following players were assigned to the Cleveland Monsters, the Blue Jackets' American League affiliate: defenseman Dean Kukan, left wing Nick Moutrey, center Justin Scott and left wing Calvin Thurkauf. In addition, center Alexander Broadhurst along with defensemen Andre Benoit and Cameron Gaunce cleared waivers and were also assigned to the Monsters. Right wing Vitaly Abramov has been assigned to his junior club, the Gatineau Olympiques of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The Jackets have also released defenseman Brady Austin and center/left wing John Mitchell from their tryout contracts.
The Blue Jackets, who are 2-3-1 in the preseason, return to action on Thursday when they visit the Nashville Predators. Game time at Bridgestone Arena is 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on 1460 ESPN in Columbus.
The Blue Jackets will kick off their 17th NHL season on Friday, October 6 against the New York Islanders at Nationwide Arena.
