The Blue Jackets visit to Nationwide Children's Hospital has become a long-standing tradition for the organization. On this day, all CBJ players visit children receiving various treatments at NCH. During this visit, the players provide each child with a Courage Kit with CBJ toys.
Pediatric Cancer Heroes
Kids fighting pediatric cancer are our heroes, and we show our support by offering unique experiences and special recognitions. During an event like Hockey Fights Cancer Night, many patients and their families were treated to a game. Some call it therapy through distraction, but most of the kids just call it fun.
Player Day of Service
Each season, the Blue Jackets player spend a day of the ice helping serve the community at various non-profits like Mid-Ohio Foodbank, the Furniture Bank of Central Ohio and LifeCare Alliance.
Through a joint partnership, the Blue Jackets support the Big 10TV Toy Drive to collect toys at an in-game toy drive for the Salvation Army's Christmas cheer program, which makes holiday gifts possible for families in need.
Each year, the Columbus Blue Jackets and Ohio Health team up with American Red Cross during September to make a goal to help save lives at the annual "Hockey: It's In Your Blood!" blood drive at Nationwide Arena.
Recycle the Game
In an effort to eliminate barriers to playing hockey, the Blue Jackets Foundation collects used equipment to be used at an annual equipment swap at an OhioHealth Chiller Ice Rink to offer pre-owned equipment at affordable prices. Proceeds are then reinvested in the local youth hockey community.
Hockey is For Everyone
The Blue Jackets are proud to support the NHL's Hockey is for Everyone initiative. CBJ has a variety of programs that cater to hockey players of all types and abilities. We believe that everyone who wants to participate in the game of hockey should have that ability.
Hockey Fights Cancer
In conjunction with the National Hockey League's Hockey Fights Cancer initiatives, the Blue Jackets holds a variety of special activities throughout the selected month including hospital visits, hosting numerous cancer patients to home games and making donations to the cause. On one special game, the Blue Jackets also wear specially designed purple jerseys during pregame warm-ups to honor those who've battled and are currently battling cancer.
The Blue Jackets salute those who served or are currently serving the nation's armed forces during the club's annual Military Appreciation Night. As a way to show support and gratitude for all active and retired service members, the Blue Jackets wear specially designed camouflage-style jerseys during pregame warm-ups and provide over 1,000 tickets for service members to enjoy the game. In addition to this special evening, a member of our military is recognized at every home game.
