Mitell

The Chicago Blackhawks announced today that they have named Tomas Mitell (TO-mas MITT-el) as an assistant coach. Mitell joins assistant coach Sheldon Brookbank and goaltending coach Jimmy Waite on Blackhawks Head Coach Jeremy Colliton's staff.
Mitell, 38, served as head coach of AIK Hockey (Allsvenskan) from 2017-19 where he guided the club to a 64-27-13 overall record during his tenure. Mitell led AIK to a league-best 35-8-9 record during the 2018-19 season. The team's 109 points and 35 wins were each franchise records.

Prior to AIK, Mitell was an assistant coach under Colliton with Hockey Mora IK (Allsvenskan) during the 2016-17 season. He helped the club to a league-best 35-13-4 record, 105 points and a promotion to the Swedish Hockey League for the 2017-18 season after defeating Leksands IF in six games (4-2) of the best-of-seven series. He also served as an assistant coach with Hockey Västerås IK (Allsvenskan) from 2014-16.
As a player, Mitell skated for Mariestad BoIS (1997-2008), Enköpings SK (2009-10), Örebro HK (2008-09; 2012-13), Surahammars (2010-11) and Västerås IK (2010-12; 2013-14) of Division 1, Division 2 and Allsvenskan leagues. In 130 games in the Allsvenskan league, he tallied 79 points (19G, 60A).
