Get to know: Andover boys hockey

In preparation for Hockey Day Minnesota 2019 presented by Wells Fargo, Wild.com will highlight each of the nine teams participating in this year's festivities Jan. 19 in Bemidji. Today, we take a look at the Andover High School Boys' hockey team.

The town

Located in Anoka County, Minnesota, Andover was established as Andover Village in 1972 before officially becoming the City of Andover in 1974. The town received its name based off a local legend stating a train once tipped over in a nearby swamp; an eyewitness account of the story describes the train as going "over and over," leading to the name Andover.

The team

Currently second in Class AA, Andover remains one of two undefeated teams this season (its Hockey Day opponent, No. 1 Minnetonka, is the other). In the past five games, Andover has tallied 21 goals and two shutouts.

The matchup

Hockey Day Minnesota marks the first meeting this season between AA's top two teams. Goaltender (10-0-1, 0.88 goals-against average) Ben Fritsinger will have his work cut out for him, as the Skippers average 5.07 goals per game.

Players to watch

Senior forward Nick Dainty leads the pack with 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 13 games played, with senior forward Charlie Schoen right behind with 17 points (six goals, 11 assists) in 10 games played. Fritsinger has logged 581 minutes between the pipes for the Huskies in 13 games and has .954 save percentage.
