30 players, ages 21 to 60, experienced a day in the life of a San Jose Sharks player at the Sharks Foundation's 2018 Shark for a Day Fantasy Camp on January 13. This year's fundraiser brought in more than $52,000 for youth and families in the Bay Area via the Sharks Foundation.
On day one of the two-day camp, participants watched a private Sharks practice at Solar4America Ice. Campers then received complimentary skate sharpening courtesy of Bay Area Hockey Repair before a VIP tour of the official practice facility led by the team's Equipment Manager Mike Aldrich.

On Saturday eager campers, including the events first-ever father-daughter duo, arrived at SAP Center where they were greeted by their Sharks alumni teammates: Scott Hannan, Kyle McLaren, Douglas Murray and Mark Smith. In their respective locker rooms campers found a personalized, authentic on-ice jersey, a new pair of CCM gloves and other custom Sharks merchandise and gifts.
Throughout the day participants replicated the same routine Sharks players have on a game day, such as a warm-up and stretch with Strength and Conditioning Coach Mike Potenza and morning skate led by Team Teal alumni Coach Tom Pederson and Team White Coach David Maley. During lunch the campers were provided a special behind-the-scenes look at what goes into game prep with a game footage video tutorial led by Sharks Video Coach Dan Darrow. At 1:05 p.m. opening ceremonies began with campers skating out of the iconic Shark Head. The ceremonial puck drop executed by S.J. Sharkie led into a 75-minute regulation game.
Evenly keel play took place as the score slowly crept up on both sides. Cheered on by nearly 200 family and friend spectators, Team Teal eventually prevailed with a final score of 5-4.
After the game, participants had a candid question-and-answer session and photo opportunity with Sharks General Manager Doug Wilson before a brief tour of SAP Center. Sharks Co-President John Tortora hosted a happy hour complete with wine from Vineyard 7&8 and Correlation Wine Company before the Sharks game which campers watched from a private Terrace Suite.
The Shark for a Day Fantasy Camp class of 2018 witnessed a nail-biting win by the Sharks as they defeated the desert dogs 6-5.
