San Jose Sharks (@SanJoseSharks) Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky announced today that Tyler Toffoli, Alexander Wennberg, Barclay Goodrow and Darnell Nurse will be the team’s Alternate Captains. The team’s complete group includes Macklin Celebrini as Team Captain.
Goodrow and Wennberg will wear serve as the team’s alternate captains for home games, while Toffoli and Nurse will be the representative alternate captains on the road.
Toffoli, 34, enters his third season with San Jose where last season he ranked fifth in goals (19), in points (49) and sixth in assists (30) among Sharks players. In the final 47 games of the season, he posted 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists, and registered his 100th point as a Shark on Mar. 30 vs. St. Louis. He reached the 40-point mark for the second consecutive season with San Jose on Mar. 10 at Buffalo, recorded his 300th NHL assist and 600th NHL point on Dec. 23 at Vegas, potted his 300th NHL goal on Dec. 16 vs. Calgary, and appeared in his milestone 900th NHL game on Oct. 28 vs. Los Angeles. He has recorded at least 40 points in seven consecutive seasons.
Toffoli has appeared in 969 NHL career games with Los Angeles, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary, New Jersey, Winnipeg, and San Jose, scoring 624 points (309 goals, 315 assists). He won the Stanley Cup with Los Angeles (2014), and internationally has appeared with Team Canada in the World Championship twice (2015, 2023), winning a Gold Medal in both tournaments. He served as captain for the squad in the 2023 tournament and finished with six points.
Wennberg, 31, enters his third season with the franchise. Last year, he finished the 2025-26 season leading Sharks forwards in blocked shots (93) and ranked second in assists (38), third in points (55) and fifth in goals (18) among Sharks skaters. He posted a career-long eight-game point streak (5g, 5a) from Mar. 26 through Apr. 8, and set a career best in goals (18), while also having his second-best individual season in both assists (37) and points (55), the second such time he has crossed 50 points in a season. He registered his 300th NHL assist on Mar. 17 vs. Edmonton, collected his 400th NHL point on Jan. 7 at Los Angeles, and appeared in his 800th NHL game on Oct. 30 vs. New Jersey. Wennberg was also named to Team Sweden’s Olympic roster, where he appeared in five games with the club, and was also San Jose’s King Clancy Memorial Trophy Nominee, nominated for his efforts and impact in the community.
Over the course of his NHL career with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, Seattle Kraken, New York Rangers, and San Jose, Wennberg has appeared in 869 games, scoring 425 points (119 goals, 306 assists). Internationally, he has represented Sweden at the World Championship three times (2016, 2019, 2025), where he helped the club achieve a Bronze Medal finish. He also appeared in the World Junior Championship in 2013 and 2014, earning a Silver Medal in both tournaments.
Goodrow, 33, ranked second among the team’s forwards in blocked shots (60) and in hits (141), reaching at least 100 hits for the eighth consecutive season. He skated in his 400th game as a Shark on Feb. 4 at Colorado, and appeared in his milestone 700th NHL game on Jan. 27 at Vancouver. On Dec. 16 vs. Calgary, he matched a career high in goals (2) and points (3) which was his first multi-goal game as a Shark and first three-point game since Dec. 22, 2022 while with the New York Rangers.
Over his NHL career with San Jose, Tampa Bay, and New York, Goodrow has accumulated 731 games and 189 points (70 goals, 119 assists). Goodrow is a two-time Stanley Cup Champion with Tampa Bay (2020, 2021), and is famously known in San Jose for his Game Seven, game-winning overtime goal while as a member of the Sharks to clinch the 2019 First Round Series win over Vegas – after the Sharks trailed the series three-games-to-one and trailed in Game Seven 3-0 entering the third period.
Nurse, 31, enters his first season with the Sharks, after registering 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists) in 82 games last season for the Edmonton Oilers. He led the Oilers in blocked shots and hits, was fourth in average time on ice (20:58), and among team defensemen ranked third in points. Among NHL defensemen, he was ninth in blocked shots, He recorded his ninth consecutive season with at least 100 or more hits and blocked shots in a single season, and has nine consecutive years of logging an average of 20 or more minutes per game. Additionally, he earned his 50th multi-point game on Oct. 23 vs. the Montreal Canadiens with two assists, and collected his fifth multi-goal game with two goals on Nov. 19 at the Washington Capitals.
Over the course of his NHL career, all with Edmonton, he has amassed 798 NHL games, along with 324 points (88 goals, 236 assists) with a plus-66 rating. In the postseason, he’s appeared in 100 games, scoring 29 points (two goals, 22 assists), and helped Edmonton reach the postseason for seven straight years, which includes two trips to the Stanley Cup Final. He was named an Alternate Captain for the Oilers ahead of the 2019-20 season.
Internationally, Nurse has represented Team Canada on multiple occasions. He was a part of the 2026 Canadian Olympic squad, appearing in 10 games and recording six assists, en-route to a Silver Medal finish. He’s also appeared in the World Championships twice (2018, 2019), scoring five points (two goals, three assists) across 20 total games, and helping the team win a Silver Medal in 2019. He was also on the Gold Medal World Junior Championship team in 2015, being named as a Top-3 Player on his team after collecting one assist in seven games, and was a part of the U-18 World Junior Championship team in 2012, earning a Bronze medal.
