Thomas Chabot and Tim Stützle kept a small secret on Thursday, when they were announced as ambassadors of CHEO’s ‘Kids These Days’ campaign.

The Senators announced on Saturday morning that Stützle and Chabot would be donating $1,872 per Senators win this year to the campaign.

“It’s really exciting news. Chabs and me are going to donate every Sens win for a great cause,” Stützle told the media on Saturday morning, adding that Senators minority owners Kyle and Rachel Braatz played a large role in inspiring them to launch the initiative.

“And we want obviously, other people to join us as well, that’s what it’s all about, bringing the community together and supporting a great cause, so I think it’s going to be really awesome.”

Stützle and Chabot both credited the late Griffin Bell, a local Senators fan and oncology patient who passed away in 2024 at the age of 6, with their interest in supporting CHEO and CHEO Foundation.

“We talked about it for a while, and we got fortunate enough to get close to the Bell family in Ottawa here, and Griff was obviously part of it. He spent a lot of time here at the rink with us, came on practice days, on game days, and when we lost him, we thought of trying to build something,” said Chabot.

“Timmy and I, we talked over the last, probably [few] months [or] maybe a year or so, and we're glad that finally it's up and running. After every Sens win, we'll be donating that, and now we have the website up and running, and hopefully the community and the fans join us in donating whatever amount. I mean, you guys know any type of donation makes a huge difference for the cause, and hopefully we can raise a lot of money for the families in need.”

Fans are invited to support the cause by donating $18.72 as a one-time gift, pledging $18.72 for every Senators win this year, or making a one-time gift of $1,872.

Launched in August 2024, the ‘Kids These Days’ campaign is CHEO’s largest campaign ever and aims to help the hospital remodel and transform pediatric care “to meet the growing and increasingly complex needs of children and youth.”

Through expanded access to care and continued innovation, CHEO will help more children get the care they need sooner and closer to home, benefiting from new treatments, technologies, and models of care.

“I think it’s great. Any time you can combine with another teammate to give back to the community on an important cause, I think it’s a great initiative,” said Senators head coach Travis Green.

Fans who pledge $18.72 for every win will also receive a limited-edition 18|72 hat, while fans that donate $1,872 will receive two 18|72 hats. You can join the cause at sens1872.ca. Fans interested in learning more can read about the program here.
