The NHL Draft lottery is just 24 hours away! Fans can tune in to watch live on May 7th at 6:30 p.m. on Sportsnet and TVAS, in English and French respectively.
For anyone who has never followed the NHL Draft lottery before, it offers all the 16 teams that did not qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs a chance to move up in the NHL Draft order from the position they finished the season in for the first round. The odds of moving up in an inverse order of which the teams finished the season with the best odds (25.5%) going to the team who finished the season with the fewest points and the worst odds going to the team that was closest to making the playoffs. Teams can only move up ten spots meaning that only 11 of the 16 teams in the Draft Lottery can claim the first overall pick, and only 12 can claim the second overall pick.
The Senators finished the 2023-24 NHL season with the 7th fewest points so they will pick in the seventh spot in each round that they hold their own pick. However, in the first round they can move up as high as the first overall pick and as low as the ninth overall pick.
