When Rasmus Dahlin handles the puck on the power play tonight, he'll have a pair of suitable one-time options to pass to on the flanks. Jack Eichel will be in his usual spot, manning the left circle.
Victor Olofsson will be on the right side, posing a threat that Dahlin understands as well as anyone.
"He's probably got the best shot I've ever seen in my whole life," said Dahlin, who was Olofsson's teammate with Frolunda in the SHL last season. "I'm gonna give him the puck on the power play and hopefully he scores."

Olofsson was recalled for the first time on Wednesday and will make his NHL debut when the Sabres host the Detroit Red Wings tonight at KeyBank Center. He's expected to skate on the top line alongside Eichel and Sam Reinhart.
The 23-year-old winger leads Rochester with 27 goals and 60 points as a rookie in the AHL this season. He scored 27 goals in 50 games to lead the SHL last season.
Those who play with Olofsson marvel at the release on his shot. Dahlin said it was apparent the first time they took the ice together. Red Wings forward Christoffer Ehn played two seasons with Olofsson on Frolunda, and he made a similar statement.
"Just his wrister and one-timer are on another level," Ehn said. "It's not a lot of guys, even in the NHL, that can match that shot."
Of course, Olofsson's lethal release was apparent before he signed his entry-level contract with the Sabres during the summer. This season has been about adjusting to the other aspects of North American hockey and developing his defensive game.

Americans Made: Victor Olofsson

"His development has been great this year," Housley said. "Not only is he doing really well on the power play, he's playing a 200-foot game. He's really responsible and plays the penalty kill as well. His wall play is good, and obviously his shot is incredible.
"Just looking at it this morning, it was great to see him have a shooter mentality. It will be interesting to see what he brings to our group."
Olofsson said he's taken on added responsibilities as the season has progressed in Rochester, including time on the penalty kill.
"My defensive play has been better," he said. "I feel that gives me confidence on offense too. I feel really confident with the puck. That's helped me a lot."
Olofsson will be the third player to join the lineup from Rochester in the last three games. Lawrence Pilut stepped in on defense in New Jersey on Monday and William Borgen made his NHL debut the following night in Ottawa.
Borgen tallied three hits in 14:54 and stood out for his simple, defense-first game.
"I thought Will played great, stepping into a situation where he had to drive up from Rochester," Housley said. "He was excited, the adrenaline was running, but he played a really solid game. Very simple game, joined the rush when he could, was good defensively, hard to play against."
The Sabres assigned Tage Thompson to Rochester this morning, where he'll join the Amerks for their playoff run. Thompson, 21, tallied 12 points (6+5) in 65 games with the Sabres this season.
"I think it's all part of his development and his plan," Housley said. "He got some meaningful games up here, did a really good job, but it gives him a chance to get acquainted with his new teammates, get some meaningful minutes and get ready for the playoffs."
Linus Ullmark will start in net for Buffalo. Coverage on MSG-B begins at 6:30 p.m. with the GMC Game Night pregame show, or you can listen live on WGR 550. The puck drops at 7.

Injury report

Evan Rodrigues is day-to-day with an upper-body injury and will not play after being hit hard into the boards by Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki. Rodrigues left the game briefly after taking the hit but returned for the third period.
Zach Bogosian (lower body), Rasmus Ristolainen (illness) and Matt Hunwick (upper body) also remain day-to-day and will not play tonight. Jake McCabe (upper body) was back on the ice with the team this morning for the first time since sustaining his injury on March 2.
McCabe estimated he'd skated 10 times with rehab and development specialist Dennis Miller and remains hopeful to get back in the lineup before the end of the season.
"It's tough for me at least to get into practice with the team because we won't be practicing a ton," he said. "I'll hopefully practice tomorrow and just take it day by day, really. It's gone really well to this point, so it's just continuing to take it day by day and improving every day."
