Rasmus Dahlin and Tage Thompson are representing their countries at Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, which run from Feb. 11 to 22 in Milan, Italy.

This year marks the first time since 2014 that NHL players are participating in the The Winter Olympics.

The tournament consists of 12 teams divided into three groups. The preliminary round will consist of round-robin play within each group, after which the top four teams (three group winners plus the top second-place team) will receive a bye to the quarterfinal round.

Teams which do not receive a bye will play in the single-elimination playoff qualification round on Feb. 17.

Feb. 14: Sweden 5 – Slovakia 3

Dahlin: 0 G | 1 A | 1 P | +1 | 24:27

Dahlin assisted on Adrian Kempe’s power-play goal to conclude the preliminary round with four points (1+3) in three games. He led Sweden in ice time for the second straight game, once again seeing multiple defense partners and quarterbacking the top power-play unit.

It was a rebound effort for the Swedes, who made multiple lineup changes in response to their loss to Finland on Saturday. Namely, Jacob Markstrom replaced Filip Gustavsson in goal and made 29 saves.

The game was tight for 40 minutes. Dahlin’s assist – which saw him look off the Slovakian penalty kill as he faked his intention to shoot before dishing to his right to leave Kempe with an open one-timer – put Sweden ahead 2-1, only for Slovakia to pull even soon after.

Elias Pettersson scored two consecutive goals – one late in the second period, the other early in the third – to help Sweden pull away. Lucas Raymond added a highlight-reel goal to complete a three-point night.

Despite the loss, Slovakia had reason to celebrate thanks to a goal from Dalibor Dvorsky scored with 39 seconds remaining. That goal - combined with Finland's win over Italy - clinched the top spot in Group B for Slovakia on the merit of goal differential, which is used as the tiebreaker for a three-team tie (Finland, Sweden and Slovakia all finished preliminary play with six points).

Sweden will play in the single-elimination playoff quailifying round on Tuesday.

Feb. 14: United States 6 – Denmark 3

Thompson: 0 G | 0 A | 0 P | | 1 SOG | 0 +/- | 9:12

The Americans improved to 2-0-0-0 in the group stage, but Thompson again saw limited ice time with just 11 shifts (compared to 15 on Thursday versus Latvia). This was the first time (through five combined games at The Winter Olympics) that Thompson or Dahlin was held off the scoresheet.

The United States trailed 2-1 after one period because of an own goal off defenseman Zach Werenski’s skate and a toss from center ice that beat goaltender Jeremy Swayman.

Thompson had three quality scoring chances early in the second, including two on a power play. Goals from Brady Tkachuk, Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin quickly gave the Americans a 4-2 lead, but Denmark pulled back within a goal with three seconds before the intermission.

American forwards Jake Guentzel and Jack Hughes added on in the third period to secure a lopsided victory.

The Americans play again Sunday at 3 p.m. EST versus Germany to close out the group stage. Goal differential is the key tiebreaker for tournament seeding, and the United States is positioned well at plus-seven through two games.
