Hallander-mediawall-bug-next-bakers-dozen

Plenty of talent will remain on the board when the 2018 NHL Draft reopens Saturday for rounds two through seven. With the Sabres scheduled to be up first on Saturday with the 32nd overall selection, let's review another baker's dozen players expected to be available to them.

Filip Hallander

RW - Timra IK (SWE-2) - 6'1" - 188 lbs.
Hallander proved himself as a hard-working skill player for a Timra IK club that will graduate from second division HockeyAllsvenskan to the Swedish Hockey League next year. Hallander makes hustle plays all over the ice and likes to take the puck hard to the net, but there is plenty of finesse in his game as well with nice feel for the puck when he's in tight.
A complete package, Hallander's two-way impact and competitiveness makes him a legitimate NHL prospect that won't last long if he makes it to Saturday.

Jonny Tychonick

LHD - Penticton Vees (BCHL) - 5'11" - 177 lbs.
Tychonick, a dynamic offensive-minded defender committed to the University of North Dakota, closed hard with seven goals and 39 points in his final 28 games, including 17 points (3+14) in 11 playoff contests for the always-competitive Vees.
Tychonick can move the puck, but also move the team's agenda forward in the locker room as well with his likeable personality and excellent character. A BCHL First-Team All Star, Tychonick will play at least two years in Grand Forks before making the next step.

Nils Lundkvist

RHD - Lulea HF (SHL) - 5'11" - 172 lbs.

Lundkvist-mediawall

A mobile, right-shot defender always looking to make things happen, Lundkvist added a much-needed rushing element to Lulea's blueline this season, collecting five points (2+3) while averaging 16:00 of work over the course of his 28 games.
Lundkvist has a great deal of NHL potential given his two-way smarts and ability to add to the attack. How he functioned this season as a 17-year-old SHL regular was significant, and he's clearly one to watch grow over the next few years as he continues to build out his defensive game.

Jesse Ylonen

RW/LW - Espoo United (FIN-2) - 6'1" - 185 lbs.
Teams with a need for speed are going to take a long, hard look at Ylonen, a high-energy winger that can create and finish off the rush. A gifted puck-handler and shooter, Ylonen tested his game versus men in Finland's second pro division this past season, snatching 14 goals and 27 points in 48 games with Espoo United, and is set to spend the next two seasons in the league after signing a Liiga contract with Lahti Pelicans.

Jacob Bernard-Docker

RHD - Okotoks Oilers (AJHL) - 6'0" - 186 lbs.
Like Tychonick, Bernard-Docker is a University of North Dakota commit that excelled this past season as a Canadian Junior "A" defender, leveraging his two-way sense and bigtime point shot to capture 20 goals and 41 points in 49 games and earn the award as the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Best Defenseman.
The foundation of Bernard-Docker's game is his quick, agile skating that creates chances offensively. Add in the fact that he's right-hand shot and you have a prospect that will be a very attractive commodity.

Jonatan Berggren

C - Skelleftea AIK (SHL) - 5'11" - 180 lbs.

Berggren-mediawall

A lightning-quick forward who always seems to have the puck on his stick, Berggren's talent is no longer one of hockey's best-kept secrets following an impressive showing at the 2018 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, where the slick and slippery creator connected for five goals and 10 points in the tournament's seven games.
Berggren, who won't turn 18 until after the draft, is set to take the next step next with Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League.

Liam Foudy

C - London Knights (OHL) - 6'0" - 173 lbs.

Foudy-mediawall

Speed kills and Foudy, whose parents are former Canadian track stars, has it in abundance. With a strong two-way commitment and a knack for filling the net, Foudy ascended the draft ranks with an excellent second half that saw him finish the year with 24 goals in 65 regular season contests.
Foudy is a natural athlete that is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential, providing great value to a club in the early stages of day two.

Alexander Alexeyev

LHD - Red Deer Rebels (WHL) - 6'3" - 195 lbs.

Alexeyev-mediawall

A towering presence with a calm demeanor, Alexeyev combines ideal size and smooth skating with a two-way mindset. Alexeyev played just 47 games in an injury-riddle draft year, but he proved rather effective producing seven goals and 30 assists.
Alexeyev plays safe and simple hockey with the look as a steady support piece that can one day play 20 minutes a night at the NHL level even if his offense doesn't fully translate to the big league.

Jett Woo

RHD - Moose Jaw Warriors (WHL) - 6'0" - 200 lbs.

Woo-Mediawall

A scrappy defender with a keen ability to circulate the puck due to his exceptional poise and patience, Woo is an above-average skater who embraces corner and net-front battles.
He's not at all shy physically, often times playing with a chip on his shoulder as he agitates the opposition, but he can also add some offensive spice as evidenced by his nine goals, 25 points, and plus-33 rating in 44 games this season with the Warriors.

Ryan McLeod

C - Mississauga Steelheads (OHL) - 6'2" - 205 lbs.

McLeod-Mediawall

A point producer with excellent skating skill and play-making instincts, McLeod will get first round consideration by teams not overly concerned with his propensity for working on the perimeter.
He sees the ice extremely well and seemingly has all the tools for success, including a great speed, so the next stages of McLeod's development will focus on leveling out his consistency and embracing the high traffic areas with more regularity to build upon the 70 points (24+46) posted in his third OHL season.

Jakub Lauko

LW - Pirati Chomutov (CZE) - 6'0" - 179 lbs.

Lauko-mediawall

An electrifying offensive talent with shiftiness that allows him to weave in and out of traffic while maintaining control of the puck, Lauko is an up-tempo threat that finds himself space to make plays and unleash his quick shot.
He's not just a one-way threat though as Lauko has consistently demonstrated excellent effort away from the puck that shows signs of maturity in his complete game. He's pesky and persistent, and showed at the World Under-18 Championship that he can produce points with three goals and three helpers in seven contests.

Jay O'Brien

C - Thayer Academy (USHS) - 5'10" - 176 lbs.

O'Brien-Mediawall

O'Brien shredded the New England prep ranks over the last two seasons with 67 goals and 145 points in 60 totals games with Thayer. Committed to Providence College this fall, O'Brien has the skating ability and core offensive tools to makes a seamless transition to the collegiate game.
Scouts focus less on his numbers at the lower levels and more on the fact that he makes the right plays with and without the puck while toting an array of shooting skills.

Adam Ginning

LHD - Linkoping HC (SHL) - 6'4" 205 lbs.

Ginning-mediawall

In a draft class full of speedy puck-moving defenders, Ginning has proven himself as a sturdy, long-limbed defensive zone presence that, with continued development in Sweden's top league, can become a middle-pair minute-eater that shuts down his half of the ice and lays punishing hits.
Ginning will never be a points machine, and he needs to add strength and quickness prior to making a North American impact, but for now there is much to like for teams looking to improve the balance of their defensive corps.
