Juuse Saros made 27 saves and did not allow a goal in the shootout as the Nashville Predators defeated the Seattle Kraken 2-1 on Thursday at Bridgestone Arena.

THE STORY

Daniel Sprong got things rolling early for the Kraken when he received a pass from Morgan Geekie and banked the puck in from behind the net to give Seattle the 1-0 lead at 2:28 of the first period.
Kiefer Sherwood netted Nashville's first goal of the game at 14:01 of the second period, burying the rebound on a Tyson Barrie shot from the point to even the score at 1-1.

Matt Duchene scored the first goal of the shootout, and Saros made saves on both of the shots he faced. Philip Tomasino scored in the third round of the shootout to seal the win for Nashville.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

Kiefer Sure Would
Sherwood's game-tying goal in the second period was his fourth goal of the season and his second point in as many games after tallying an assist on March 21 at Buffalo. Sherwood now has points in five of his last 10 games (3g-3a).
Tommy No-Doubt
Novak has 33 points (14g-19a) in 39 games with Nashville since being recalled from Milwaukee (AHL) on Dec. 19. In an 18-game span since Feb. 18, Novak has posted 22 points (10g-12a), including six multi-point efforts. Since his season debut, only Roman Josi (12g-24a) has posted more points than Novak for Nashville.
Shootout King
Duchene's goal was his fifth shootout goal of the season. He is now tied for second place among all NHL skaters with five shootout goals this season.

THEY SAID IT

Barrie on the win:
"We've been doing it since I got here. This team has just been playing hard and working for each other. And we've got great goaltending and we're giving ourselves a chance to win every night. Tonight I didn't think was any different. We came out with a goal and the guys played hard and it was a big couple of points for us."
Saros on the importance of the win:
"Everybody's going to give their best effort every night. So it's all you can ask for. It's been fun. It's been a different group of guys for the last six weeks or so. But it's been good… Every point is huge at this point of the season so it's a big win."
Duchene on his shootout success:
"I've got a plan. That's all I'll say. You get into a rhythm and you get a good feel for it. Two years ago and the year before that, it wasn't very good and that was something I needed to get better at. I was pretty good last year and this year, you've got to expect to score on those. So those are huge, especially right now. We're getting a lot of shootout games. Obviously some five-on- five scoring has been hard to come by at times for us, but you've got to just be ready for it. [Saros] is always outstanding, so we as shooters have to pull our weight."
Duchene on Nashville's playoff chase:
"We've got to win our games. We've got games in hand, and we have to win our games in hand. That's the bottom line. So every game is big… We've got to take care of what we can control and it's very much in our hands."
Head Coach John Hynes on the team's shootout strategy:
"I get a sheet every game depending on the goalie… People think the shootout's just a skills competition, but as far as us, we put a lot of time and effort into it."
Hynes on facing Seattle again on Saturday:
"I think there's certainly some things we can look at. I think there were some things in the first and second period for sure that we kind of addressed in between periods, but I think sometimes it helps a little bit with video and we'll just give them some more looks tomorrow. I thought in the third period we were on our heels a little bit and I think that that resulted in the shot differential as well. So we'll take a hard look at that period as well and then pick out some components offensively and defensively that we can be better… I think the fact that we're playing Seattle again gives us an opportunity to really study some things and I think it's probably a little bit easier for the players to adapt going against the same team."
