EDMONTON, AB - There was no Swiss miss for Gaetan Haas, Ryan McLeod and Tyler Benson.
The trio of Oilers forward on loan in Switzerland over the past couple of months combined to average nearly a point per game, with Haas (SC Bern) and McLeod (EV Zug) competing in the top National League while Benson (GCK Lions) played in the second-division Swiss League.
Haas, who scored five goals and five assists in 58 games during his first NHL season in 2019-20, scored in his final game with Bern on Wednesday to give him five tallies and three helpers in 14 appearances. He's now headed back to Edmonton after signing a one-year contract extension in April, with training camp starting as early as Jan. 3.
McLeod, meanwhile, scored four goals and 11 assists in 15 games with Zug as he now heads back to Edmonton for his second pro season in North America. The 21-year-old centreman spent all of 2019-20 as a rookie with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, scoring five goals and 18 assists in 56 games.
Benson was a playmaking machine with the Lions, picking up 16 assists as well as a pair of goals in 15 games to lead his team in points with 18. He'll now return to his hometown to embark upon his third pro season in North America after spending the last two with the AHL's Condors, combining for 24 goals and 78 assists in 115 games.
