EDMONTON, AB - There's no 'I' in 'team.'
Oilers Captain Connor McDavid will be the first to say it.
The centre factored into the first nine goals the Oilers scored this season, breaking Adam Oates' previous record of seven, which he set in 1986-87 as a member of the Detroit Red Wings. Darnell Nurse's overtime winner at 1:25 of the extra period in Tuesday's game was the first McDavid hadn't been in on.
When asked about the feat, McDavid was indifferent.
"It's whatever," he said post-game versus the Jets after his four-point night. "I don't think it's a stat we should be proud of. We found a way to get a goal at the end, so we never have to talk about it again."
The Oilers Captain's apathetic answer prompted McLellan to be asked about McDavid's humble attitude. No. 97 avoids speaking highly of himself, electing to emphasize the importance of the team above the individual even when he is driving the play for his club.
