Mika Zibanejad had a goal and two assists to help the New York Rangers defeat the New York Islanders 5-2 in their preseason opener at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday.

Zibanejad, who was acquired from the Ottawa Senators in July, scored a power-play goal 4:55 into the first period. He also assisted on forward Brandon Pirri's power-play goal with 2:55 left in the second period and on defenseman Dylan McIlrath's goal at 13:28 of the third period.
Forward Chris Kreider and defenseman Dan Girardi also scored for the Rangers.
Rangers goalie Magnus Hellberg made 12 saves on 13 shots before being replaced by Mackenzie Skapski (17 saves) midway through the second period.
Forward Jason Chimera and defenseman Nick Leddy scored for the Islanders, who got 26 saves from J.F. Berube.
