Mitch Marner and Victor Olofsson also scored and Adin Hill made 17 saves for the Golden Knights (2-1-0), who bounced back from a 4-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.
Paul Cotter and Jonathan Lekkerimaki scored and Kevin Lankinen made 25 saves for the Canucks (2-2-0), who were playing back-to-back after a 4-1 win against the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
Cotter scored in his 300th NHL game to put the Canucks ahead 1-0 at 18:52 of the first period. Taking the place of Jake DeBrusk (illness) on the top power play, Cotter tipped Filip Hronek’s cross-ice pass from the top of the left face-off circle out of the air and over the left pad of Hill in tight, extending his point streak to four games and six points (four goals, two assists).
Marner scored a pretty goal at 9:01 of the second period to tie it 1-1. Brayden McNabb’s point shot bounced off the skate of Canucks defenseman Zeev Buium in the right slot and straight across the ice to an open Marner. With Lankinen pushing hard across to his left, Marner pulled the puck back into the middle of the slot, stranding the goalie for his first goal of the season.
Olofsson put Vegas ahead 2-1 at 14:30 as part of a five-forward power play unit. Mark Stone passed a rebound from a Jack Eichel one-timer across the ice to Olofsson at the bottom of the right face-off circle for a one-timer before Lankinen could get across his net.
Lekkerimaki tied it 2-2 at 17:54, skating onto a loose puck off the rush and snapping a far-side wrist shot under the blocker arm of Hill from low in the right face-off circle.
Vegas restored the lead 34 seconds later after a rebound of Braeden Bowman’s wraparound attempt went to Gatcomb at the other side of the net, leaving him with a tap-in for his first goal since signing on July 1 with the Golden Knights as a free agent to make it 3-2 at 18:28.
