VGK@ANA: Karlsson beats Gibson for OT winner

ANAHEIM -- William Karlsson scored his second goal 3:23 into overtime to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 3-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Saturday.

Alex Pietrangelo had a goal and an assist, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 28 saves for his 100th win with the Golden Knights (12-4-1), who have won two straight following their only two-game losing streak of the season.
Rickard Rakell had a goal and an assist, and John Gibson made 24 saves for the Ducks (6-10-5), who are 0-4-2 in the past six games.
"That's some steep competition over there," Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins said of Vegas.
Karlsson scored his game-winner on a breakaway off a pass from Shea Theodore.
Karlsson and Theodore each was drafted by the Ducks and made his NHL debut with them.
"Me and Theo always say before the games, 'These guys didn't want us,' so there's always some added motivation for these games," Karlsson said.
Adam Henrique, who was in the Anaheim lineup for the first time since he was waived Feb. 20 and went unclaimed, poked in a loose puck in the crease to tie the game 2-2 at 11:05 of the third period.
Vegas challenged for a missed stoppage because Rakell appeared to touch the puck with a high stick just before the goal, but the goal was upheld by video review.
"We felt that was a high stick," Theodore said. "That's the way it's going to go the rest of the year. I think you're going to have bounces here and there that sometimes you get and sometimes you don't."
Henrique, who led the Ducks in goals (26) and points (43) last season, said he was pleased with his performance. He also won 11 of 12 face-offs (92 percent).
"I put it on myself to play well," Henrique said. "Everything else is out of my hands, so I just focused on my game, what I needed to do."

Karlsson lifted the puck over Gibson's left shoulder from in close for a 2-1 lead at 9:10 of the second period.
Pietrangelo took advantage of a mistimed line change by the Ducks and made a long stretch pass to Karlsson, who was a stride ahead of three Anaheim players.
"They were trying to get a change and I had (teammate Jonathan Marchessault) yelling for the puck, so he kind of drew attention to himself and it opened up for me in the middle," Karlsson said. "Luckily I had enough time to shoot."

The Ducks scored first for the third straight game.
Cam Fowler, playing in his 700th NHL game, sent a pass to Rakell, and he lifted a one-timer high in the net to give the Ducks a 1-0 lead at 10:09 of the first period. It was his second goal of the season and first in 14 games.
"It's easy to get very frustrated, and it has been a frustrating time, especially since I felt that I've had the scoring chances and had the shots on net, but just not that final touch to make the puck go in," Rakell said. "But I can either look at the past and be really frustrated about it, or just try to take it game by game and try to improve."
Pietrangelo scored his first goal since Jan. 20 at 16:29 to tie it 1-1.
William Carrier screened Gibson, and Pietrangelo scored on the near side with a wrist shot from the right face-off circle.
Fleury, who leads the NHL in save percentage (.941) and goals-against average (1.59) among goalies with at least 10 games, has held nine of 12 opponents to two goals or fewer this season.
NOTES: Among goalies to be an NHL team's first to 100 wins, Fleury required the second-fewest games to do it, at 168 (Tiny Thompson, 158, Boston Bruins). Fleury is 100-53-14 in four seasons with Vegas and 475-269-80 with two ties in 859 games in 17 seasons with the Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins. … Theodore had two assists. … Ducks defenseman Hampus Lindholm had two hits and two blocked shots playing 18:03 after missing three games with a lower-body injury. … Anaheim defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk played his 700th NHL game.
