TOR@VAN: Edler wins it for Canucks in overtime

VANCOUVER -- Alexander Edler scored with 1:49 left in overtime, and the Vancouver Canucks rallied for a 3-2 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Rogers Arena on Wednesday.

The Canucks trailed 2-0 after two periods, but Loui Eriksson and Josh Leivo scored 1:52 apart early in the third, and Edler won it with a wrist shot under Frederik Andersen's glove from the top of the left face-off circle.
"That one feels good," Canucks center Bo Horvat said. "The relentlessness and the character in this room that we battled back against a team like that, it's not easy to do and I thought we played a heck of a 60 minutes tonight."

It was Toronto's first loss this season when leading after two periods (32-0-1).
"Just little mistakes that we've got to fix," said Maple Leafs forward Mitchell Marner, who had an assist to extend his point streak to five games (three goals, eight assists). "Going forward, we're going to look at it and be better at it. We've been pretty good all year at holding those leads, so we can't get frustrated about this one."
Adam Gaudette had two assists, and Jacob Markstrom made 28 saves for Vancouver (28-30-9), which ended a three-game losing streak and moved within seven points of the Minnesota Wild for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.
"We need to get back on the win train again and just feel good about ourselves and have something to build on," Markstrom said. "It's a good bounce back game."
Ron Hainsey and Morgan Rielly scored 34 seconds apart in the second period, and Andersen made 28 saves for Toronto (41-21-5), which trails the Boston Bruins by two points for second place in the Atlantic Division.

TOR@VAN: Hainsey nets SHG on Marner's gorgeous feed

"The second period was real good for us," Hainsey said. "Obviously, letting the lead slip away was not what we were looking for."
Hainsey gave the Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead at 12:28 on a shorthanded 2-on-1 rush. Marner controlled a bouncing puck near the left hash marks, pulled it away from a stick check and slid it across to Hainsey for a backdoor tap-in.
Rielly made it 2-0 on the next shift at 13:02 with a one-timer from the left circle after a pass from John Tavares behind the net.
But Eriksson scored his first goal in 18 games on a backhand shot through traffic at 2:21 of the third period, and Leivo tied it on the power play at 4:13.

Leivo, playing his first game against the Maple Leafs since they traded him to Vancouver on Dec. 3, scored on a wrist shot from the right face-off dot.
"That's a goal I can remember for a while," Leivo said. "It felt great, but even better that the boys battled back and got the win."
It was the fifth goal on 54 chances over 19 games for Vancouver's 29th-ranked power play.
"Fred's a good goalie and we want to tip our caps to him," Leivo said of Andersen. "But we just wanted to keep getting pucks towards the net, getting in front of his eyes."

"Of course, I want to save that one. I thought I took my eyes off it a little bit too quick, thinking about the next play, but it dipped on me a little bit. But obviously one I have to stop." -- Maple Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen on the overtime goal
"Our team doesn't quit, and we have shown that all year. We have battled back a lot this year. Toronto had two quick-strike goals and they are explosive like that, but our guys stuck with it." -- Canucks coach Travis Green
