New Jersey will also clinch if it gets one point against Toronto and the Florida Panthers lose to the Boston Bruins in any fashion. If the Panthers lose in regulation, the Devils will clinch regardless of what they do against Toronto.
The Devils, who are 6-0-1 since March 23, haven't made the playoffs since 2012.
"It's nice to have it in our own hands," left wing Taylor Hall said.
The Maple Leafs, who are 9-3-0 since March 10, have clinched and are locked into third place in the Atlantic Division. They need one point to set a team record for most points in a season. They have 103, which matches the 2003-04 team.

Players to watch

Maple Leafs center Auston Matthews has 10 points (five goals, five assists) in seven games since returning from a shoulder injury.
Hall has 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in a nine-game point streak, including six goals in a four-game goal-scoring streak.
