RECAP: Blackhawks Top Coyotes in OT, 4-3

For the second straight meeting, 60 minutes were not enough between the Blackhawks and the Coyotes, but Alex DeBrincat sealed the victory on the night for the visitors with his 40th of the season. The overtime tally tied the NHL lead for game-ending goals with DeBrincat's fourth of the year.
Jake McCabe and Dominik Kubalik scored in the first period and Alex Vlasic netted his first NHL tallly in the second before Arizona tied it 3-3 late in the third to force overtime. Kevin Lankinen made 32 saves, including several spectacular stops, in the victory.

1st - 0:42 - Jake McCabe (Jonathan Toews, Dominik Kubalik)

The Blackhawks opened the scoring on the game's second shift off an offensive zone draw. Jonathan Toews won a faceoff back to Jake McCabe at the point, who patiently assessed his options before sending a return feed to Toews at the backdoor. Toews' shot hit the pad of netminder Karel Vejmelka, off the skate of a defenseman in front and trickled into the slot, where McCabe pounced while with a put-back tally for a 1-0 lead.

1st - 15:32 - Dominik Kubalik (Tyler Johnson, Tyler Johnson)

The same line doubled the lead for Chicago off another scramble in tight and a slot rebound score later in the period for a 2-0 lead. From behind the goal, Jonathan Toews snuck out the near side and slid a pass across to Tyler Johnson at the backdoor. Johnson's shot was denied by Karel Vejmelka, but rebounded into the slot for a wide-open Dominik Kubalik to put home into the open side.

2nd - 12:43 - Barrett Hayton (Nick Schmaltz, Andrew Ladd)

Arizona pulled a goal back on a scramble of their own in the second period. Kevin Lankinen made a diving post-to-post play to swat away a wraparound chance from Nick Schmaltz with the blocker, but the puck went right to Barrett Hayton in the slot. Lankinen initially made a kick save on Hayton's point-blank chance while on his back, but the puck bounced just over the line as it tumbled to the ice for a 2-1 score.

2nd - 16:25 - Alex Vlasic (Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane)

For the second straight night, a Blackhawks rookie found twine for the first time in his career as Alex Vlasic netted his NHL first to make it a 3-1 lead. Alex DeBrincat fed the blueliner at the point, where he threw a puck towards goal in the vicinity of Patrick Kane's stick in the slot, but it deflected off the skate of Nick Schmaltz and in to count as Vlasic's.

2nd - 9:42 - Nathan Smith (Phil Kessel, Alex Galchenyuk)

The Coyotes answered midway through the third with a first NHL goal of their own. Phil Kessel brought the puck into the zone and dumped it into the corner for Alex Galchenyuk to retrieve. Galchenyuk funneled a pass back up the wall for Kessel, who quickly found Nathan Smith with space in front for a 3-2 score and the rookie's first tally.

2nd - 13:43 - Anton Stralman (Phil Kessel, Nick Schmaltz)

Arizona pulled even on the night a few minutes later. Nick Schmaltz kept a clearance in the offensive zone and quickly started a 3-on-2 chance in tight for the Coyotes. Schmaltz found Phil Kessel out wide, who quickly sent a return feed back to Anton Stralman in the slot for a one-timer and a tie game.

OT - 4:21 - Alex DeBrincat (Patrick Kane, Seth Jones)

Chicago's overtime leader, Alex DeBrincat called game for his 40th goal of the season. Patrick Kane at the side of the net found his opposite winger crashing the back post and threaded a pass across the paint for a tap-in winner and a 4-3 Blackhawks win.
