PHI@BOS: Pastrnak records his 10th career hat trick

David Pastrnak scored his first goal in the sunlight and his third under the dark sky, completing a hat trick for the Boston Bruins in a 7-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers in the Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday in Stateline, Nevada.

"It was beautiful," Pastrnak said of the chance to play at Edgewood Tahoe Resort. "Personally, that we played in both conditions with the sun and the dark, I think that was really great. The dark is beautiful too. You get to play outside. Overall, it was an unbelievable experience."
Trent Frederic scored his first NHL goal during a four-goal second period for the Bruins (11-3-2), who are 5-0-0 against the Flyers this season. Brad Marchand, Connor Clifton, Craig Smith and John Moore each had two assists, and Tuukka Rask made 16 saves.

"It was really special," Moore said. "It's a tough year without fans, but you can't say enough about this event. I've been fortunate to play in a couple of outdoor games, and this one just blows them all out of the water. You wish your family can be a part of it, but we really tried to embrace it and have fun as a group. Obviously winning helps. It was a great memory."
James van Riemsdyk had a goal and two assists, and Sean Couturier and Joel Farabee scored for the Flyers (8-4-3). Carter Hart allowed six goals on 23 shots before Brian Elliott replaced him for the third period. Elliott made 11 saves.
"They were on top of us and we weren't too responsible defensively," Couturier said. "They are a good team and they make you pay when they get chances. We knew we needed to bring our 'A' game all night and be on top of their guys and we had a little let down in the second and gave up four goals. It's tough to win a game when you give up four goals in a period."

PHI@BOS: Pastrnak scores goal off rush 34 seconds in

Pastrnak is the second player to score a hat trick in an NHL outdoor game; forward Tyler Toffoli scored three goals with the Los Angeles Kings against the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL Stadium Series game at Air Force Academy on Feb. 15, 2020.
He scored 34 seconds into the game on a 2-on-1 with Marchand to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. They were going directly into the sun.
"It was really challenging, but it was really funny," Pastrnak said. "[Marchand] told me that he couldn't even see the net, so he was like, 'I was passing the whole time because I couldn't even see where the net is.' … It's always a good start to the game when you score first shift."

Pastrnak scored his second of the game 46 seconds into the second period to give the Bruins a 3-2 lead and completed the hat trick at 17:04 of the third for the 7-3 final.
He led the Bruins with a plus-4 rating.
"'Pasta' brought it today," Boston coach Bruce Cassidy said. "There's a trickle-down effect. Good for our guys. We needed it."

PHI@BOS: Coyle's quick shot banks in to extend lead

Charlie Coyle gave the Bruins a 4-2 lead at 16:14 of the second period, the first of three goals in 1:39.
Frederic, playing his 33rd NHL game, whipped a shot over Hart's glove to make it 5-2 at 16:47.
"It was kind of a pinch-yourself moment," Frederic said. "It was a little different, obviously, being outdoors, no fans. You don't exactly get the loud noise, so it took me a little bit to realize how real it was. It was cool."

PHI@BOS: Frederic scores first goal 33 seconds later

Nick Ritchie scored a power-play goal to give Boston a 6-2 lead at 17:53 of the second period.
Van Riemsdyk scored a power-play goal at 12:45 of the third to make it 6-3.
"A couple of shifts got away from us," Flyers coach Alain Vigneault said. "I really liked the way we came out and played hard and then competed and played smart that first period. But in the second period a couple of shifts got away from us, and they're such a strong team that they could capitalize on their opportunities and they did so."
Philadelphia tied it 1-1 on Farabee's goal at 6:41 of the first period, then took a 2-1 lead when Couturier scored at 14:48.
But Charlie McAvoy tied it 2-2 on a one-timer from the top of the right circle at 15:27 of the first.

The Bruins outshot the Flyers 27-8 over the final two periods, including 15-3 in the second.
"We kept playing the right way," Cassidy said. "We didn't just open the floodgates and say, 'Let's trade chances and see who can win 6-5.' We extended the lead the right way."
NOTES: It was Pastrnak's 10th NHL hat trick and second against the Flyers this season; he also scored three goals in a 4-3 overtime win Feb. 3. … Bruins defenseman Jeremy Lauzon sustained an upper-body injury on the first shift of the game. Cassidy didn't have an update. … Frederic became the third player to score his first NHL goal in an outdoor game. The other two did so with the Flyers (defenseman
Danny Syvret
in the 2010 NHL Winter Classic at Fenway Park, and center Brayden Schenn in the 2012 NHL Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park). … Boston is 3-1-0 in outdoor games; Philadelphia is 1-4-0.
