Senators extend point streak to five with win against Oilers

EDMONTON -- Kyle Turris and Mike Hoffman each had two goals and an assist for the Ottawa Senators in a 6-1 win against the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place on Saturday.
Derick Brassard and Chris Wideman scored, and Mike Condon made 35 saves in his first start of the season for the Senators (3-0-2), who won all three games of a Western Canada road trip for the first time in their history.
The Senators defeated the Vancouver Canucks 3-2 on Tuesday and the Calgary Flames 6-0 on Friday.

"It was great to finish off a trip like that. It's huge," Turris said. "It's great for our confidence to start the year on a big note on a Western road trip. We've got to carry that momentum home, now."

Adam Larsson scored for the Oilers (1-3-0). Cam Talbot was pulled 1:04 into the third period after allowing four goals on 23 shots. Laurent Brossoit allowed two on eight shots.
Edmonton has lost three straight after winning the season opener, 3-0 at home against the Flames.
"They are a good team, they play solid. We've got to start getting some goals," Oilers captain Connor McDavid said. "I don't know what needs to be said. We just have to be better. The time for talk is over. We just have to get results."
Hoffman scored at 6:09 of the first period to give the Senators a 1-0 lead. He took a pass in tight from Tom Pyatt and lifted a shot past Talbot.
Brassard scored at 9:31 on the power play, converting a cross-ice pass to give the Senators a 2-0 lead.
Hoffman scored his second of the game 3:36 into the second period to make it 3-0.

"We knew they had been waiting for us here," Hoffman said. "Sometimes, when you get too many days off in a row, they can have a slow start. We wanted to get on them early. I think that's what we did and that seemed to work its way through the whole game."
Turris scored at 1:04 of the third period to give Ottawa a 4-0 lead.
Wideman put Ottawa up 5-0 on a point shot during a power play at 3:43. Turris made it 6-0 on the power play at 8:34.
"We're not anywhere near what I think our abilities are and a lot of it was just fundamentals," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "Fundamental passing, fundamental board work, the penalty kill was poor."
Larsson scored on a shot from the point at 11:03 during a 4-on-4 to make it 6-1, ending the Senators' bid for consecutive shutouts.
"We don't expect to get six goals every game but it was very, very fun to watch," Condon said. "It was very fun game to play behind those guys."

Goal of the game

Turris collected the puck behind his own net, skated up the ice and beat all four Oilers' penalty killers before shooting past Brossoit for his second goal of the game.

Save of the game

Condon made a save on defenseman Yohann Auvitu, who was sent in alone by Milan Lucic, at 2:52 of the second period. The save kept the Senators up 2-0, and they increased their lead 44 seconds later to 3-0.

Highlight of the game

Hoffman collected a pass from Turris in the face-off circle and shot the puck over Talbot's shoulder.
