Auvitu, 28, played in Finland's Liiga with JYP, where he won the championship in 2011-12 and the European Trophy in 2013. He signed with HFK in 2014-15 and helped lead the team to the finals the next season, winning the 2015-16 Pekka Rautakallio Trophy as the best defenseman.
The New Jersey Devils signed Auvitu to a one-year, two-way entry-level contract on May 27, 2016. He made his NHL debut in the Devils season opener against the Florida Panthers on Oct. 13, 2016, getting his first NHL point with an assist on a goal by P.A. Parenteau. Auvitu scored his first NHL goal on Nov. 11, 2016 against the Buffalo Sabres and finished the season with four points (two goals, two assists) in 25 games.
